Omschrijving
Inleiding
Vrijstaand houten kerkje op het terrein van het vml. sanatorium Hornerheide. De toegepaste bouwstijl is traditionalistisch. Het ontwerp wordt toegeschreven aan architect Th. J. Geerts uit Zevenaar en dateert van omstreeks 1920. Het kerkgebouw was specifiek bedoeld voor de tuberculosepatiënten die in het sanatorium werden behandeld.
In 1991 werd een bakstenen plint aangebracht.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand houten KERKGEBOUW op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Zadeldaken en lessenaarsdaken met rode muldenpannen. Dak wordt bekroond met een klein klokkentorentje met spits dak. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is witgeverfd hout. De bakstenen plint dateert uit 1991. Vensters en deuren met kleine roedeverdeling.
Hoog middenschip met zadeldak met aan weerszijden een lagere zijbeuk met lessenaarsdak.
Aan de VOORGEVEL van de kerk een open voorportaal rustend op twee houten kolommen en afgedekt met een zadeldakje met muldenpannen. Dubbele toegangsdeur van omstreeks 1980 met kleine roedeverdeling. In de topgevel voorgevel een houten kruis onder een kapje. Boven dit kruis een rond glas-in-lood venster.
In de ZIJGEVEL VAN DE RECHTER ZIJBEUK zes grote houten driedelige vensters met kleine roedeverdeling, en een rechthoekige houten deur. In de oksel van middenschip en zijbeuk een kleine uitbouw met lessenaarsdakje met muldenpannen. In de rechterzijgevel van het middenschip zes dubbele vensters met kleine roedeverdeling en een hoog smal venster met kleine roedeverdeling. In de ZIJGEVEL VAN DE LINKER ZIJBEUK vier grote driedelige vensters met kleine roedeverdeling. In het linkerdeel van deze zijgevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met lessenaarsdak ten behoeve van de sacristie. In de voorgevel van de sacristie-uitbouw een toegangsdeur. Helemaal links in deze zijgevel een smal hoog venster met kleine roedeverdeling. In de linkerzijgevel van het middenschip zes dubbele vensters met kleine roedeverdeling.
ACHTERGEVEL met iets verder doorlopende zijbeuken. Middenschip en zijbeuken met blinde achtergevel.
Structuur van het INTERIEUR in tact. Daken middenschip en zijbeuken met open houten dakconstructie rustend op houten kolommen. Wanden met een betimmering van omstreeks 1990. Vensters deels voorzien van gele ruitjes. Oxaal met houten balustrade. Achter de balustrade drie spitsbogen rustend twee houten kolommen. Aan weerszijden van de dubbele toegangsdeur een houten paneeldeur. In de linkerzijwand ter hoogte van het altaar een deur naar de sacristieruimte. Plafonds met houten beschot.
Waardering
Het kerkgebouw is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling van roomskatholieke kerkgebouwen in het eerste kwart van de 20ste eeuw.
Het kerkgebouw bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur en het bijzondere materiaalgebruik.
Ensemblewaarde ontleent het kerkgebouw aan de centrale situering op het terrein van sanatorium Hornerheide in het buitengebied van de gemeente Haelen.

Detached wooden CHURCH BUILDING on a rectangular floor plan. Gabled roofs and catslide roofs with red roof tiles. Roof is crowned with a small bell tower with pointed roof. The building material used is whitewashed wood. The brick plinth dates from 1991. Windows and doors with small glazing bars.
Tall central nave with gabled roof with on either side a lower side aisle with catslide roof.
At the FRONT GAVEL of the church an open entrance porch resting on two wooden columns and covered with a small gabled roof with roof tiles. Double entrance door from approximately 1980 with small glazing bars. In the top gable of the front gavel a wooden cross under a small roof. Above this cross a round stained glass window.
In the SIDE GAVEL OF THE RIGHT SIDE AISLE six large wooden three-part windows with small glazing bars, and a rectangular wooden door. In the corner of nave and side aisle a small extension with a small catslide roof with roof tiles. In the right side gavel of the nave six double windows with small glazing bars and a high narrow window with small glazing bars. In the SIDE GAVEL OF THE LEFT SIDE AISLE four large three-part windows with small glazing bars. In the left part of this side gavel an extension in one storey with catslide roof for the purpose of the sacristy. In the front gavel of the sacristy extension an entrance door. Far left in this side gavel a narrow high window with small glazing bars. In the left side gavel of the nave six double windows with small glazing bars.
REAR GAVEL with side aisles extending slightly further. Nave and side aisles with blank rear gavel.
Structure of the INTERIOR intact. Roofs of nave and side aisles with open wooden roof truss structure resting on wooden columns. Walls with wall panelling from approximately 1990. Windows partly provided with yellow panes. Gallery with wooden balustrade. Behind the balustrade three pointed arches resting on two wooden columns. On either side of the double entrance door a wooden panelled door. In the left side wall at the level of the altar a door to the sacristy space. Ceilings with wooden boarding.
Valuation
The church building is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a spiritual and typological development of Roman Catholic church buildings in the first quarter of the 20th century.
The church building possesses architectural-historical value because of its special importance for the history of architecture and the special use of materials.
Ensemble value is derived by the church building from its central situation on the grounds of sanatorium Hornerheide in the open country of the municipality of Haelen.
