The register's description

Omschrijving

Description

The LANDHUIS Persijn is built on an almost rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys under a hipped roof, slate-clad and flat-topped. The facades are rendered and whitewashed and provided with pilasters at the corners, which on the ground floor are rusticated and on the upper floor are provided with casements. The storeys are separated by a horizontal double cordonnet on which the windows of the upper floor rest. These are mostly fitted with a T-sash window in contrast to the ground-floor windows which mainly contain sash windows. A corniced cornice is applied under the gutter.

The arched window surrounds contain a medallion with (not always legible) the letters 'V' and 'H', which stand for Van Hengst. The dormer windows occurring on all facade sides are terminated by a segmental arch-shaped pediment. In the left and right side facades the dormers with three coupled windows are flanked on each side by a modern roof light.

The front facade (east) has in the centre a three-sided projection and counts two window axes on each side. Against the facade at the height of the first storey a canopy is set on cast-iron corbels with non-original covering. The top is finished with a wooden balustrade with iron decorative elements. The facade contains double garden doors in the centre of the projection, windows in the sloped sides and two garden doors on either side of the projection. The second storey contains seven T-sash windows. In the roof plane three, partly later inserted dormers are inserted with arched pediments.

The right side facade (north) has three bays with a slight projection in the centre. In the first storey the main entrance is placed in the centre under a wrought-iron canopy. On either side there is a window. Above the entrance is a large, composite window with a blind opening left and right.

The left side facade (south) is articulated vertically not only by the corner pilasters but also by a pilaster placed in the centre of the facade. Four windows occur per storey.

The rear facade (west) has a projection in the centre, with a pilaster at the corners. Both storeys contain two window openings. The facade sections left and right each contain a two-light window per storey. The extension to the rear facade is of secondary importance. The interior layout is only partly original after a renovation in 1990. The stairwell contains a wooden staircase with carved work in Neo-Louis XIV style. The landing on the upper floor is executed with a Tuscan column, pilasters and a cornice. The windows of the representative rooms and the main entrance are provided with interior shutters.

Valuation

The landhuis is of general importance due to its architectural historical value as an example of a landhuis in eclectic style, as well as due to its cultural historical value in relation to the development history of the country estate. Also of group value with the other complex components and of situational value due to its location within the landscape layout of Persijn.
