Inleiding
Tegen de zuidelijke transeptfaçade van de R.K. H. Lambertuskerk te Beers staat een CALVARIEGROEP met HEILIG GRAF onder afdak, waarvoor het graf van pastoor Bertens uit 1933. Het ontwerp van het geheel is van C. Franssen en dateert uit 1917-'18; de beelden zijn van de hand van H. van der Geld.
Omschrijving
Onder een houten lessenaarsdak, met houten korbelen bevestigd aan de zuidelijke transeptfaçade, staat een calvarieberg met drie kalkstenen beelden (Christus, Maria en Johannes) op een gecementeerde rotspartij. Aan de voorzijde van de rots staat een deels in baksteen en deels in hardsteen uitgevoerd Heilig Graf, waarin een liggend christusbeeld. Het graf is afgedekt met een mensa. Vóór dit altaar ligt een hardstenen zerk met de tekst: "Hier rust / de Z.E.W. heer A.C. Bertens / geb. te Udenhout 2 nov.
1801 / bijna 28 jaar pastoor te Beers / en aldaar overleden 10 maart 1933 / R.I.P.".
Waardering
Het grafmonument met calvarieberg is van algemeen belang. Against the southern transept facade of the R.K. H. Lambertuskerk in Beers stands a CALVARY GROUP with HOLY SEPULCHRE under a shelter, in front of which is the grave of Pastor Bertens from 1933. The design of the whole is by C. Franssen and dates from 1917-'18; the figures are by H. van der Geld.
Description
Under a wooden lean-to roof, with wooden corbels fixed to the southern transept facade, stands a calvary mountain with three limestone figures (Christ, Mary and John) on a cemented rocky mass. On the front of the rock stands a Holy Sepulchre executed partly in brickwork and partly in stone, containing a reclining Christ figure. The sepulchre is topped with a mensa. In front of this altar lies a stone slab with the text: "Here lies / the Revd. A.C. Bertens / born in Udenhout 2 Nov.
1801 / nearly 28 years pastor in Beers / and died there 10 March 1933 / R.I.P.".
