Inleiding
Aan de noordwestzijde van de Appelhaven gelegen voormalig KAASPAKHUIS daterend uit het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw. In 1926 werd het pand verbouwd waarbij een verbinding gemaakt is met Appelhaven 7. Bovendien werd er een aanbouw opgetrokken aan de achterzijde welke in verbinding werd gebracht met Appelsteeg 1.
Omschrijving
Het kaaspakhuis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond (ca. 10 x 20 m) en telt drie bouwlagen onder een mansardedak met de noklijn haaks op de straat. In de kap bevindt zich een zolder met daarboven een vliering. Het pand is opgetrokken in rode baksteen. Op het linker dakschild liggen gesmoorde Hollandse pannen. Het rechterdakschild is gedekt met rode en op het noordelijke deel gesmoorde Hollandse pannen.
De voorgevel (ZO) heeft een symmetrische opzet en is uitgevoerd als gebroken tuitgevel. Bij de aanzet en knik hiervan is hardsteen toegepast. Iedere bouwlaag wordt afgesloten door twee uitkragende metsellagen boven elkaar. Met uitzondering van de vensters op de begane grond zijn alle vensters in de voorgevel voorzien van twee openslaande ramen waarboven als bovenlicht twee valramen. Alle vensters hebben een ruitvormige roedenverdeling. De begane grond is van links naar rechts als volgt ingedeeld: een smal venster, een dubbele deur met in elke deurhelft twee ramen (eveneens met ruitvormige roedenverdeling), een smal venster, een gekoppeld venster, een smal venster, een dubbele deur en wederom een smal venster. De vensters op de begane grond zijn voorzien van luiken. De dubbele deuren worden ontlast door ijzeren lateien waarboven op de eerste verdieping een smalle dubbele deur met een bij de vensters aansluitende vormgeving en bovenlichten. De eerste verdieping telt verder vijf vensters van het genoemde type: één links, één rechts en drie tussen beide deuren. De tweede verdieping en de twee kapverdiepingen hebben respectievelijk zeven, vijf en drie vensters. Langs de rand van de tuitgevel en ter hoogte van de onderste zolderverdieping bevinden zich in totaal vijftien schootankers. De door de omringende bebouwing grotendeels aan het oog onttrokken zijgevels hebben bovenaan een bakgoot op klossen. Hieronder wordt het zichtbare bovenste gedeelte van de linkerzijgevel (ZW) geleed door zeven steunberen voorzien van een hardstenen deksteen.
De achtergevel (NW) is vrijwel identiek aan de voorgevel, afgezien van het aantal en de vorm van de vensters. De boven de latere aanbouw uitstekende tweede verdieping telt acht twaalfruits openslaande ramen waarboven drieruits bovenlichten. In de zolderverdieping erboven bevinden zich zes van deze vensters. De bovenste zolder heeft vier negenruits openslaande ramen waarboven drieruits bovenlichten.
In het pand zijn appartementen ondergebracht op de verdieping en stalling voor auto's en kantoor op de begane grond. Bij deze verbouwing zijn de oorspronkelijke constructieonderdelen zoals spanten e.d. behouden gebleven.
Waardering
Het pand is van algemeen belang wegens cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een kaaspakhuis uit het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw. Tevens heeft het pand ensemblewaarde in relatie tot verscheidene 19de- en 20ste-eeuwse kaaspakhuizen in de omgeving van de Appelhaven.

Former CHEESE WAREHOUSE located on the north-west side of the Appelhaven dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. In 1926 the building was remodelled whereby a connection was made with Appelhaven 7. Moreover an extension was built on the rear side which was connected with Appelsteeg 1.
Description
The cheese warehouse has a rectangular floor plan (approximately 10 x 20 m) and comprises three storeys under a mansard roof with the ridge line perpendicular to the street. In the roof there is an attic with above it a hayloft. The building is constructed in red brick. On the left roof slope smoke-cured Dutch tiles are laid. The right roof slope is covered with red and on the northern part smoke-cured Dutch tiles.
The front facade (SE) has a symmetrical composition and is executed as a broken spout gable. At the start and bend of this hardstone is applied. Each storey is concluded by two projecting masonry courses one above the other. With the exception of the windows on the ground floor all windows in the front facade are provided with two casement windows above which as fanlight two drop windows. All windows have a diamond-pattern glazing bars. The ground floor is arranged from left to right as follows: a narrow window, a double door with in each door half two panes (also with diamond-pattern glazing bars), a narrow window, a coupled window, a narrow window, a double door and again a narrow window. The windows on the ground floor are provided with shutters. The double doors are relieved by iron lintels above which on the first floor a narrow double door with a design matching the windows and fanlights. The first floor further has five windows of the aforementioned type: one on the left, one on the right and three between both doors. The second floor and the two roof storeys have respectively seven, five and three windows. Along the edge of the spout gable and at the height of the lowest attic storey there are a total of fifteen roof anchors. The side facades, largely obscured from view by the surrounding buildings, have at the top a gutter on corbels. Below this the visible upper part of the left side facade (SW) is articulated by seven buttresses provided with a stone coping.
The rear facade (NW) is almost identical to the front facade, except for the number and form of the windows. The second floor projecting above the later extension has eight twelve-pane casement windows above which three-pane fanlights. In the attic storey above there are six of these windows. The uppermost attic has four nine-pane casement windows above which three-pane fanlights.
The building houses apartments on the upper floors and parking for cars and office space on the ground floor. During this remodelling the original structural components such as roof trusses etc. were retained.
Valuation
The building is of general importance for its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a cheese warehouse from the last quarter of the 19th century. Furthermore the building has ensemble value in relation to various 19th- and 20th-century cheese warehouses in the vicinity of the Appelhaven.
