Inleiding
Voormalige HERBERG, gesticht in 1818, dat omstreeks 1880 zijn huidige uiterlijk heeft gekregen. Het pand dat in een Ambachtelijk-traditionele trant is opgetrokken heeft in de loop der jaren een aantal wijzigingen ondergaan, veelal samenhangend met functiewijzigingen. Vermoedelijk is in 1880 de galerij, die aan het zijrisaliet was gebouwd, verdwenen na verbouw tot winkel van het aangrenzende pand (Hoofdstraat 47). Tot 1900 was het gemeentehuis erin gehuisvest, en tot omstreeks 1955 was er een kleine winkel in gevestigd op de begane grond (het winkelraam is nog aanwezig). In 1923 is het pand inwendig verbouwd; er werd onder andere een bovenzaal ingericht. In 1956 werd een deel van de schuur bij het café getrokken en werd de achterzijde uitgebreid met een aanbouw met sanitaire voorzieningen. Sinds ongeveer 1986 is het pand particulier in gebruik.
Het pand is zeer opvallend gelegen midden het dorp aan de Hoofdstraat, aan de voet van de middeleeuwse kerktoren. De toren is via het pand bereikbaar omdat in de tijd dat het gemeentehuis was, gebruik werd gemaakt van de cellen in de kerktoren. Samen met de toren en het pand Hoofdstraat 47 vormt het een fraaie, beeldbepalende straatwand.
Omschrijving
Twee bouwlagen hoge HERBERG, opgetrokken in een roodbruine baksteen onder een schilddak aan de voorzijde gedekt met een zwart geglazuurde Friese golfpan en aan de achterzijde met een rode Hollandse pan. Op het dak twee gemetselde schoorstenen. De voorgevel (oost) heeft op de begane grond een deur (niet origineel) met bovenlicht binnen een houten omlijsting; twee H-vensters onder een strek; een omlijst winkelvenster (T-venster) met gepleisterde kuif en aan de onderzijde een gepleisterd paneel met gebouchardeerde decoraties; een kort H-venster met keldervenster eronder, beide onder een strek. Op de verdieping bevinden zich vijf zesruits vensters. Het zijrisaliet (rechts) heeft op de begane grond een dubbele houten schuurdeur onder een rollaag, tussen twee kleine zesruits vensters met strek, en erboven twee vierruits vensters met strek; op de verdieping twee zesruits vensters met strek. De voorgevel wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst. De zuidgevel die aan de middeleeuwse kerktoren is vastgebouwd heeft zowel op de eerste als tweede bouwlaag een H-venster. De noordgevel heeft op de verdieping een zesruits venster en is voorzien van een aantal later toegevoegde vensters. De achtergevel (west) heeft op de verdieping een uitgebouwd deel onder een plat dak waarin twee hotelkamers waren ondergebracht (niet origineel) en een aankapping op de begane grond uit 1956. De rest van de achtergevel heeft een aantal vensters van verschillend formaat, deels origineel.
In het INTERIEUR zijn ondermeer van belang: de bovenzaal uit 1923 met gepleisterd tongewelf met ijzeren trekstangen en drie gietijzeren ventilatieroosters.

Introduction
Former INN, founded in 1818, which acquired its present appearance around 1880. The building, erected in a Craft-traditional manner, has undergone a number of changes over the years, largely in connection with changes of use. Presumably the gallery, which had been built onto the side risalit, disappeared in 1880 after the adjacent building (Hoofdstraat 47) was converted into a shop. Until 1900 the town hall was housed in it, and until around 1955 a small shop was established on the ground floor (the shop window is still present). In 1923 the building was remodelled internally; among other things an upper hall was created. In 1956 part of the barn adjoining the café was demolished and the rear was extended with an annex containing sanitary facilities. Since approximately 1986 the building has been in private use.
The building is very prominently located in the middle of the village on Hoofdstraat, at the foot of the medieval church tower. The tower is accessible via the building because when it was the town hall, use was made of cells in the church tower. Together with the tower and the building Hoofdstraat 47, it forms a fine street frontage of visual significance.
Description
Two-storey INN, erected in reddish-brown brick under a hipped roof on the front covered with black-glazed Frisian barrel tiles and on the rear with red Dutch pan tiles. On the roof two masonry chimneys. The front facade (east) has on the ground floor a door (not original) with fanlight within a wooden frame; two cross windows under a lintel; a framed shop window (T-window) with plastered hood and at the base a plastered panel with bushhammered decoration; a short cross window with cellar window below, both under a lintel. On the upper floor there are five six-pane windows. The side risalit (right) has on the ground floor a double wooden barn door under a course, between two small six-pane windows with lintel, and above two four-pane windows with lintel; on the upper floor two six-pane windows with lintel. The front facade is finished with a cornice. The south facade which is built against the medieval church tower has both on the first and second storey a cross window. The north facade has on the upper floor a six-pane window and is provided with a number of later-added windows. The rear facade (west) has on the upper floor a projection under a flat roof in which two hotel rooms were housed (not original) and a lean-to on the ground floor from 1956. The rest of the rear facade has a number of windows of various sizes, some original.
In the INTERIOR the following are of particular importance: the upper hall from 1923 with plastered barrel vault with iron tie rods and three cast-iron ventilation grilles.
