Inleiding.
WOONHUIS, aan de dijk gelegen, aan het einde van de Meliestraat. Het huis werd in 1870 gebouwd en vertoont elementen van Eclecticisme.
Omschrijving.
Het dijkhuis telt aan de straatzijde één bouwlaag, aan de achterzijde twee lagen. Het heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt.
Het dak is gedekt met Oud Hollandse pannen. De voorgevel van het bakstenen huis is bekleed met geblokt pleisterwerk. Tussen de plint en de waterlijst zijn met lijsten vlakken met cirkels weergegeven. Aan de bovenzijde van de gevel een gladde lijst, daarin zijn op de hoeken en aan weerszijden van de middentravee dekoratieve consoles aangebracht. De voorgevel is vijf traveeën breed en heeft boven de deur in het midden een kleine dakkapel met samengesteld raam in een gebogen, dekoratieve omlijsting. Aan weerszijden van de deur zijn twee achtruits schuiframen aangebracht in een geprofileerde omlijsting met kuif.
De linkerzijgevel is uitgevoerd in handgevormde baksteen. Voor de zij-ingang (op straatniveau) is een trapje aangebracht. Aan de voorkant bevindt zich een halfvenster, in de topgevel zijn twee zesruitsramen en een rond raam aangebracht. Onder deze verdieping is een kelderlicht aanwezig. De rechterzijgevel heeft een gepleisterde plint en een ingang op kelderniveau. Aan weerszijden daarvan zijn twee vierruitsramen aangebracht. Daarboven, op de begane grond bevindt zich zowel voor als achter in de gevel een half venster. In de top, als bij de linkerzijgevel, twee zesruitsramen en een klein rond raam. Tegen de achtergevel is een éénlaagse garage met daarboven een dakterras aangebouwd. Daarboven zijn de ramen in de oude gevel zichtbaar. Deze vijf ramen hebben afgeronde hoeken. Bij alle ramen zijn de kozijnen vervangen door kunststof kozijnen.
In het interieur is de oude indeling zo veel mogelijk hersteld. Op de begane grond is de gang betegeld met zwart marmeren tegels. Rechts in de gang bevindt zich de trap. De kelders zijn overkluisd met tongewelven en hebben een betegelde vloer. In de kamers op de begane grond zijn binnenluiken, paneeldeuren en stucplafonds voorbeelden van bewaard gebleven elementen.
Achter het huis ligt een grote tuin met aan de linkerkant een gerestaureerde keermuur met steunberen.
Waardering.
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling van het dorpswoonhuis. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde wegens materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Description.
The dike house has one storey on the street side, two storeys on the rear side. It has a rectangular floor plan under a gabled roof with the ridge running parallel to the street.
The roof is covered with Old Dutch tiles. The front facade of the brick house is clad with rusticated render. Between the plinth and the drip moulding, panels with circles are depicted using mouldings. At the top of the facade a smooth moulding, into which decorative consoles are fitted at the corners and on either side of the central bay. The front facade is five bays wide and has above the central door a small roof dormer with composite window in a curved, decorative frame. On either side of the door are two four-light sash windows fitted in a moulded frame with hood.
The left side facade is executed in hand-formed brick. A small staircase has been fitted in front of the side entrance (at street level). On the front is situated a half-window, in the gable two six-light windows and a round window are fitted. Below this storey is a basement light. The right side facade has a render plinth and an entrance at basement level. On either side of it are two four-light windows fitted. Above, on the ground floor, there is a half-window both at front and rear in the facade. In the gable, as on the left side facade, two six-light windows and a small round window. Against the rear facade a single-storey garage with a roof terrace above has been added. Above this the windows in the old facade are visible. These five windows have rounded corners. At all windows the frames have been replaced with plastic frames.
In the interior the old layout has been restored as much as possible. On the ground floor the hallway is tiled with black marble tiles. To the right in the hall is the staircase. The basements are barrel-vaulted and have a tiled floor. In the rooms on the ground floor interior shutters, panelled doors and stuccoed ceilings are examples of preserved elements.
Behind the house lies a large garden with on the left side a restored retaining wall with buttresses.
Valuation.
The residence is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an expression of a socio-economic and typological development of the village residence. It has architectural-historical value due to material use and ornamentation. It has been preserved intact.
