Inleiding.
Vrijstaande VILLA, gebouwd in 1930 naar een ontwerp van architect J. Hurks. Het pand vertoont elementen van zakelijk expressionisme gebouwd en is iets afwijkend van de overige bebouwing door Hurks aan de Ludwigstraat. Het pand maakt deel uit van een samenhangend ensemble van woningen.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags woonhuis op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder schilddak waarvan de nok haaks op de straat staat. Het huis is uitgevoerd in baksteen met een terugliggende voeg, het dak is voorzien van een fors overstek en gedekt met romaanse pannen. Alle vensters hebben metalen kozijnen. Tegen de voorgevel aan de straatkant is een grote erker met breed raam geplaatst, boven het raam is een betonnen latei zichtbaar. Boven de erker bevindt zich een balkon met bakstenen borstwering. Het balkon heeft rechthoekige ramen. Naast de erker bevindt zich in de gevel een breed raam en daarboven, op de verdieping een samengesteld raam. Beide ramen hebben de originele roedenverdeling. De linkerzijgevel heeft een risaliet met trappenhuis waarin de portiek is uitgespaard. De deur is vernieuwd. Links en rechts daarvan bevinden zich hoog geplaatste ramen met kathedraalglas en glas-in-lood. Erboven is de gevel hoger opgebouwd en heeft ter plekke van de vide smalle hoge ramen, gevuld met glas-in-lood. De ramen steken uit ten opzichte van de gevel, erboven loopt deze vertikale lijn door in lisenen. Rechts van het pand zijn tegen de hoofdmassa in een éénlaagse bouwmassa onder plat dak een bijkeuken en garage gebouwd. Achter heeft het pand een erker met overstek, ernaast is een deur aangebracht. Op de verdieping bevat de achtergevel nog een aantal rechthoekige ramen. In het dakvlak is aan de voorzijde een brede dakkapel met samengestelde ramen aangebracht. In het interieur bereikt men via de ingang een hal met vide. Van daaruit zijn de verschillende vertrekken (twee woonkamers en een keuken) toegankelijk. In de hal bevindt zich een trappartij naar de galerij op de verdieping. Het pand wordt omgeven door een tuin.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de sociaal-ecenomische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stedebouwkundige uitleg van de stad in het Interbellum. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de verzorgde vormgeving in baksteen en is een belangrijk werk in het oeuvre van de in Roosendaal actieve architect Hurks. Het heeft ensemblewaarde in samenhang met overige bebouwing aan de Ludwigstraat. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Two-storey dwelling house on a rectangular ground plan beneath a hipped roof with the ridge at right angles to the street. The house is executed in brick with recessed mortar joints; the roof has a substantial overhang and is covered with Roman tiles. All windows have metal frames. Against the front facade on the street side is placed a large bay window with a wide window; above the window a concrete lintel is visible. Above the bay window is a balcony with brick parapet. The balcony has rectangular windows. Beside the bay window in the facade is a wide window and above it, on the upper storey, a composite window. Both windows have the original glazing bars. The left side gable has a risalit with a staircase in which the porch is recessed. The door is renewed. To the left and right of it are high-set windows with cathedral glass and leaded glass. Above this the facade is built higher and has, at the location of the void, narrow tall windows filled with leaded glass. The windows project with respect to the facade; above this the vertical line continues in pilasters. To the right of the building against the main mass is built a one-storey building mass beneath a flat roof containing a scullery and garage. To the rear the building has a bay window with overhang; beside it is a door. On the upper storey the rear facade contains a number of rectangular windows. In the roof slope at the front is a broad roof dormer with composite windows. In the interior one enters via the entrance a hall with a void. From there the various rooms (two living rooms and a kitchen) are accessible. In the hall is a staircase to the gallery on the upper storey. The building is surrounded by a garden.
Appreciation.
The building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an example of socio-economic development, namely the urban planning development of the city in the Interwar period. It has architectural-historical significance on account of the careful design in brick and is an important work in the oeuvre of the architect Hurks active in Roosendaal. It has ensemble value in relation to the other buildings on Ludwigstraat. It has been well preserved.
