Inleiding.
Vrijstaande VILLA, gebouwd in 1927 naar ontwerp van architect Jac. Hurks, in Amsterdamse Schoolstijl, deel uitmakend van een samenhangend ensemble van woningen.
Omschrijving.
Woonhuis, twee lagen hoog op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een parabooldak waarvan de nok haaks op de straat staat. Boven de zijgevels loopt het dakvlak door over de verdieping. Het huis is uitgevoerd in baksteen, het dak is gedekt met rode romaanse pannen. Tegen de voorgevel is, aan de rechterzijde een vijfkantige erker geplaatst met een uitstekende houten lijst. Links daarvan bevindt zich de ingang, een paneeldeur met op de hoek een naar opzij doorlopend, hooggeplaatst glas-in-lood raam, gevuld met gekleurd glas en voorzien van uitstekende horizontale houten roeden. Boven deur en ramen bevindt zich een uitstekende houten lijst. De hoge topgevel wordt in het midden doorsneden door een puntig uitstekende bakstenen penant. Aan weerszijden daarvan is op de verdieping een rechthoekig raam aangebracht. In de top zijn liggende ramen geplaatst aan weerszijden van een puntig uitstekend raampje dat de penant bekroond. Tegen de linkerzijgevel een tweelaags risaliet met afgeschuinde hoek onder plat dak met overstek die het trappenhuis bevat. Op de hoek is een hoog glas-in-loodraam aangebracht. Dit raam heeft kleine vierkante lichten, van elkaar gescheiden door uitstekende houten roeden. Rechts is een éénlaagse uitbouw met plat dak geplaatst. Daarop een opbouw, tegen het dakvlak, met overstek. Aan de voorzijde van deze opbouw is een schoorsteen zichtbaar.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de sociaal-ecenomische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stedebouwkundige uitleg van de stad in het Interbellum. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de verzorgde vormgeving in baksteen en is een belangrijk werk in het oeuvre van de in Roosendaal actieve architect Hurks. Het heeft ensemblewaarde in samenhang met overige bebouwing aan de Ludwigstraat. het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Residential house, two storeys high on a rectangular floor plan under a parabolic roof of which the ridge is perpendicular to the street. Above the side facades the roof plane continues over the storey. The house is executed in brick, the roof is covered with red Romanesque tiles. Against the front facade is, on the right side a five-sided bay window placed with a projecting wooden cornice. To the left of it is the entrance, a panelled door with on the corner a high-placed leaded glass window running to the side, filled with coloured glass and provided with projecting horizontal wooden glazing bars. Above door and windows is a projecting wooden cornice. The high gable end is pierced in the middle by a pointed projecting brick pilaster. On either side of it a rectangular window is placed on the storey. In the apex are horizontal windows placed on either side of a pointed projecting small window that crowns the pilaster. Against the left side facade a two-storeyed projection with bevelled corner under a flat roof with eaves that contains the stairwell. On the corner a high leaded glass window has been placed. This window has small square lights, separated from each other by projecting horizontal wooden glazing bars. To the right a single-storey outbuilding with a flat roof is placed. Above it a structure, against the roof plane, with eaves. On the front of this structure a chimney is visible.

The property is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as an example of socio-economic development, namely the urban expansion of the city in the Interbellum period. It has architectural-historical importance because of the carefully worked out design in brick and is an important work in the oeuvre of the architect Hurks active in Roosendaal. It has ensemble value in relation to other buildings on the Ludwigstraat. It has been preserved in good condition.
