Inleiding.
Het SEINHUIS naar ontwerp van Van Heukelom maakte deel uit van een centrale bediening van wissels en seinen. Deze centrale seininrichting werd ontworpen door C.G.J.W. Koopman, ingenieur der Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS) in 1908. Het was een voor die tijd zeer uitgebreide en moderne beveiliging. Inmiddels wordt het gebouw niet meer gebruikt.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags vrijstaand uit donkerrode machinale baksteen opgetrokken pand onder een schilddak gedekt met kruispannen, de hoeken zijn voorzien van pirons. Het circa tien meter hoge seinhuis is op een rechthoekige plattegrond gebouwd, de hoeken gaan aan de zuidzijde op verdiepingshoogte door middel van natuurstenen, getrapte banden over in schuine kanten. Tevens zijn er sierbanden in strengperssteen. De verdieping is voorzien van een omloop met hekwerk op ijzeren consoles in zandstenen neuten en met een trap aan de buitenzijde (1990). Op de begane grond bevinden zich enkele getoogde ramen met een kleine roedenverdeling. In het midden van de gevel een bakstenen console voor de erker op de verdieping. De verdieping heeft transparant karakter met een aaneengesloten reeks ramen die na 1945 gewijzigd zijn. De oorspronkelijke bovenlichten met kleine roedenverdeling zijn wel bewaard gebleven. De bovenste rand van het gebouw is betimmerd. Het dak heeft een overstek met houten schoren. In het interieur zijn de oorspronkelijke installaties nog grotendeels aanwezig. Op de begane grond zijn de schijvenkelder met mechanische installaties en de brandstofkelder bewaard gebleven. Op de verdieping staat nog een groot deel van de installatie, bestaande uit 15 wisselhandels en 21 seinhandels. Thans zijn nog 13 handmatig bediende seintoestellen van het merk Siemens en Halske A.G. (Berlijn) aanwezig.
Waardering.
Het seinhuis met installaties en bijbehorende trekdraden is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische, technische en typologische ontwikkeling. Daarnaast heeft het architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de compacte opbouw, de stijl en de detaillering. Het is een der weinige uit het werk van Van Heukelom overgebleven seinhuizen. Het heeft ensemblewaarde als belangrijk onderdeel van het geheel. Het is uiterst zeldzaam, na de verdwijning van de overige te Roosendaal gebouwde seinhuizen. Het is overigens ook landelijk uiterst zeldzaam.

Two-storey free-standing building constructed from dark-red machine-made brick under a hipped roof covered with cross tiles; the corners are provided with iron ties. The approximately ten-metre-high signal box is built on a rectangular ground plan; at the south side, at storey height, the corners transition via natural stone, stepped bands into slanted edges. There are also decorative bands in pressed brick. The first floor is provided with a walkway with railings on iron corbels in sandstone bearing stones and with an external staircase (1990). On the ground floor there are several arched windows with small glazing bars. In the centre of the facade is a brick corbel for the oriel on the first floor. The first floor has a transparent character with a continuous series of windows which were altered after 1945. The original fanlights with small glazing bars have been preserved. The top edge of the building is boarded. The roof has an overhang with wooden braces. In the interior, the original installations are largely still present. On the ground floor the disc cellar with mechanical installations and the fuel cellar have been preserved. On the first floor, much of the installation still stands, consisting of 15 switch handles and 21 signal handles. Currently, 13 manually operated signal instruments of the make Siemens and Halske A.G. (Berlin) are present.
Valuation.
The signal box with installations and associated traction rods is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an expression of a socio-economic, technical and typological development.
