Inleiding.
FABRIEKSHAL, gebouwd in 1920 in opdracht van Ligtenberg, naar een ontwerp van H. Frankefort. In het ontwerp zijn elementen van Art Deco verwerkt.
Omschrijving.
Grote tweelaagse hal met een voorgevel van vijf traveeën breed met een symmetrische opzet voorzien van verticale geleding door lisenen. De middelste travee is aan de bovenzijde getrapt. Op de begane grond bevindt zich een brede openslaande deur van metaal met een betonnen band aan de bovenzijde. Erboven is een drietal kleine raampjes aangebracht. Op de verdieping, boven de ingang zijn staande ramen geplaatst. De gevel heeft verder zowel op de begane grond als op de verdieping grote ramen met metalen kozijnen en roedenverdeling. Alle ramen zijn in betonnen omlijstingen gevat. Aan weerszijden van de deur zijn lage pijlers met natuurstenen (granieten) afdekplaat. Daarop zijn opschriften aangebracht: links "HUIB FRANKEFORT/ARCHITECT" en aan de rechterkant (onleesbaar want afgesleten) is een eerste steenlegging herdacht. De rechterhoek heeft een hoger, torenachtig element dat iets boven de dakrand uitsteekt: watertoren De zijgevel is beslagen met moderne metalen platen. In het interieur is een portaal met aan de linkerkant een trap met ijzeren balustrade. De constructie bestaat uit een betonskelet.
Waardering.
De fabriekshal is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de leer- en schoenindustrie en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de schoenfabriek. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde wegens de Expressionistische vormgeving en is van belang als voorbeeld van het werk van H. Frankefort. Large two-storey hall with a front facade five bays wide with a symmetrical layout provided with vertical articulation by pilasters. The middle bay is stepped at the top. On the ground floor is a wide glazed metal door with a concrete band at the top. Above this are three small windows. On the first floor, above the entrance are tall windows. The facade further has both on the ground floor and on the first floor large windows with metal frames and glazing bars. All windows are set in concrete surrounds. On either side of the door are low pylons with natural stone (granite) capping. Inscriptions are applied to these: on the left "HUIB FRANKEFORT/ARCHITECT" and on the right (illegible as it is worn away) a foundation stone laying is commemorated. The right corner has a taller, tower-like element that projects slightly above the roof line: water tower. The side facade is clad with modern metal panels. In the interior is a portico with on the left side a staircase with an iron balustrade. The structure consists of a concrete skeleton.
