Inleiding.
Het HOTEL-RESTAURANT, oorspronkelijk met de naam STATIONSKOFFIEHUIS, nu De Blauwe Vogel, is gebouwd in Eclectische stijl rond 1880 en staat op de hoek van de Stationsstraat en de Oude Stationweg.
Omschrijving.
Het blokvormige tweelaagse hoekpand heeft een afgeschuinde hoek en een samengesteld schilddak met zwarte kruispannen. Boven de hardstenen plint zijn de gevels gepleisterd. Aan de zijde van de Stationsstraat telt het pand vier traveeën, de andere zijde telt er vijf. De vernieuwde getoogde vensters zijn voorzien van een hardstenen dorpel en stucwerk vensteromlijstingen met raambefjes, oreillons en kuiven. Deze omlijsting is ook aanwezig rond de in ca. 1970 vernieuwde hoofdingang op de hoek. Een grote luifel onder flauw hellend houten lessenaardak aan de zijde van de Oude Stationweg rust op vakwerk spanten van gietijzer die ter plaatse van de goot eindigen in een vossekop-achtige vorm. De spanten zijn verder voorzien van getoogde consoles en ijzeren bloemdecoraties. Hieronder bevindt zich een terrazzovloer met florale en geometrische sierpatronen. De geprofileerde kroonlijst rust op consoles gedecoreerd met fruitslingers en maskarons. Het fries is aan beide zijden beschilderd met de naam van het hotel: daarboven bevindt zich een tandlijst.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als beeldbepalend onderdeel van de stadsuitleg uit het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw en de relatie die het heeft tot de ontwikkeling en uitbreiding van de stad, het is van belang voor de ontwikkeling van de typologie van het stedelijk woonhuis in de 19de eeuw. Het pand heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de evenwichtige en verzorgde compositie en is van belang voor het werk van de architect Van Genk. This surround is also present around the main entrance on the corner, renewed circa 1970. A large awning under a gently sloping wooden lean-to roof on the side of the Oude Stationweg rests on openwork spandrels of cast iron which end in a fox-head-like form at the level of the gutter. The spandrels are further provided with arched consoles and iron floral decorations. Below this is a terrazzo floor with floral and geometric ornamental patterns. The moulded cornice rests on consoles decorated with fruit garlands and mascarons. The frieze is painted on both sides with the name of the hotel: above this is a dentil moulding.
