The TOWNHOUSE Jerusalem was built in 1890 on the commission of Miss M.J.C.F. de Ram by architect R.H.C. van Someren. The building, located at the corner of Keizerstraat, was built in Neo-renaissance style. Between this house and the adjacent building there is a built-up gateway passage.
Description.
The two-storey TOWNHOUSE of five bays has an approximately rectangular floor plan and is partially cellared. The hipped roof is fitted with a slate covering with rubber tiles and two simple zinc oeil de boeuf roof windows. The front facade is built of machine-made brick. Horizontal accents of ashlar are the rusticated plinth with arched cellar lights, the ashlar bands at under-, middle and upper lintel level of the sash windows and the string course. The lintels, step in front of the front door, sill and head stones with diamond points are also of ashlar. The centrally placed front door is fitted with push bars, fielded panels and wrought iron ornamental grilles. The arched spandrels above the fanlights are filled with tiles with geometric decoration. These tiles return as panels below the windows of the first storey and as a recess in the plastered frieze. The windows on the storey are closed by a lintel. Above the frieze is the profiled cornice. The side facades of the building are blocky plastered and fitted with some wall windows. The large garden has a brick wall, fitted with sloping buttresses.
