Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Midden in het centrum van Schijndel bevindt zich op de hoek van de Markt en de Vicaris van Alphenstraat een SCULPTUUR van het Heilig Hart van Jezus.
Het aan drie zijden vrijliggende Heilig Hartbeeld ligt midden in een plantsoen met diverse coniferen dat een driehoekige plattegrond beslaat direct aan de noordzijde van de Sint Servatiuskerk. Aan de andere zijde van de kerk de kosterswoning, pastorie en de Mariakapel.
Het bouwsel werd in 1922 door Jan Custers vervaardigd in neo-gotische stijl.
Het stond oorspronkelijk bij de kruising van de Kluisstraat met de Hoofdstraat en is in 1957 naar de huidige lokatie verplaatst. Het beeld was een geschenk van de parochie ter ere van het zilveren priesterfeest van H. Donders.
Drie bronzen plaquettes aan de voorzijde zijn verdwenen. In de sokkel bevond zich een rechthoekige plaquette met de tekst: 'H. HART VAN / JEZUS / zegen de Pastorie / SCHIJNDEL / U toegewyd / 19 1/10 22'. In twee flankerende, vierkante plaquettes stonden een Alfa en Omega, symbolen voor de eeuwigheid. De handen zijn nieuw aangezet; de linker pink ontbreekt.
Omschrijving.
Het sterk frontaal gerichte, symmetrische bouwsel bestaat uit een onder een bronzen baldakijn geplaatst kalkstenen Christusbeeld op een hoge granieten sokkel met aan weerszijden lagere gebogen muren die een driezijdig gesloten, tweedelige voetplaat omsluiten.
De zittende Christus met kruisnimbus, lange haren en baard is blootvoets, gekleed in een lange geplooide tunica en heeft een hart met doornenkroon op de borst, verwijzend naar de 'fornax ardens caritatis', de gloeiende Vuuroven van Liefde.
De top van het baldakijn is bekroond met een kruisnimbus, op de zijkanten staan Christusmonogrammen. Aan de binnenzijde van de de sokkel flankerende muurtjes staat de tekst: 'HET VOLK VAN SCHIJNDEL / AAN ZIJN KONING', gevolgd door een kruisteken.
Waardering.
De neo-gotische Heilig-Hartsculptuur is van algemeen belang.
Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als bijzondere uitdrukking van de rooms-katholieke Heilig Hartdevotie in de jaren twintig. Daarnaast is het object van belang voor de typologie van de Heilig Hartbeelden.
De verplaatsing van het object naar deze plek heeft de op die plaats reeds aanwezige ensemblewaarden versterkt. Het verhoogt de waarde van een historisch gegroeid religieus ensemble, verder bestaande uit de kerk (reeds rijksmonument), pastorie kosterswoning en Mariakapel.
Het object is van belang wegens de grote kunsthistorische zeldzaamheid van een zittende, onder een baldakijn geplaatste Christus in combinatie met de sokkelmuurtjes en een divers materiaalgebruik.

Introduction.
In the centre of Schijndel, on the corner of the Markt and the Vicaris van Alphenstraat, there is a SCULPTURE of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Sacred Heart image, standing free on three sides, lies in the middle of a planted area with various conifers that occupies a triangular plan directly on the north side of the Sint Servatiuskerk. On the other side of the church the sacristan's house, rectory and the Mariakapel.
The structure was made in 1922 by Jan Custers in neo-Gothic style.
It originally stood at the intersection of the Kluisstraat with the Hoofdstraat and was moved to its current location in 1957. The image was a gift from the parish to honour the silver jubilee of H. Donders' priesthood.
Three bronze plaques on the front are missing. In the base was a rectangular plaque with the text: 'H. HART VAN / JEZUS / bless the Rectory / SCHIJNDEL / Dedicated to You / 19 1/10 22'. In two flanking, square plaques stood an Alpha and Omega, symbols for eternity. The hands are newly attached; the left little finger is missing.
Description.
The strongly frontally oriented, symmetrical structure consists of a limestone Christ figure placed under a bronze baldachin on a high granite base with on both sides lower curved walls that enclose a three-sided closed, two-part foot plinth.
The seated Christ with cross nimbus, long hair and beard is barefoot, clothed in a long pleated tunic and has a heart with crown of thorns on the chest, referring to the 'fornax ardens caritatis', the glowing Furnace of Love.
The top of the baldachin is crowned with a cross nimbus, on the sides stand Christ monograms. On the inside of the small walls flanking the base stands the text: 'THE PEOPLE OF SCHIJNDEL / TO THEIR KING', followed by a cross sign.
Valuation.
The neo-Gothic Sacred Heart sculpture is of general importance.
It has cultural-historical values as a particular expression of Roman Catholic Sacred Heart devotion in the nineteen-twenties. Furthermore, the object is important for the typology of Sacred Heart images.
The relocation of the object to this place has strengthened the ensemble values already present at that location. It enhances the value of a historically developed religious ensemble, further consisting of the church (already a national monument), rectory, sacristan's house and Mariakapel.
The object is important due to the great art-historical rarity of a seated Christ placed under a baldachin in combination with the base walls and diverse use of materials.
