Inleiding

Description
Introduction
COUNTRY HOUSE "Villa Blanca" AND GARDEN. The house was built in neoclassical style in the year 1915 as a country residence for textile manufacturer Frans Mutsaerts, then residing at the Spoorlaan in Tilburg. His factory was the present garage Knegtel. The country house, now a residential dwelling, was built by contractors Vekemans (Goirle) and J. van der Weegen (Tilburg), to the design of architect W.F.J.H. Bouman (Tilburg/Breda). In 1919 the large veranda at the rear of the house is incorporated as a conservatory. The country house stands in the front garden of the estate. This front garden is a design by architect Albert Lejeune (Tilburg).
Description
The country house is situated on a sandy terrace. At the front the terrace is separated by a projecting U-shaped wall in plan provided with a balustrade, flanked by frontal staircases with six sandstone steps and stair posts with volute-shaped supports. The approach to the country house situated in the front garden runs partly over the terrace. Behind the house the terrace has a similar separation. A section of the wall with balustrade here in plan consists of an elliptical arch segment and the flanking staircases have respectively eight and nine sandstone steps. On the sandy terrace a stone platform has been constructed with five sandstone steps at each entrance to the country house.
The house has a composite plan and consists of single and double storeys, alternately covered by gabled roofs and flat roofs. The front facade of the country house has a setback in the building line. The left section of the house, with gabled roof and positioned perpendicular to the street, has a three-bay wide facade. It contains on the ground floor the living room with along the entire width a frontal veranda with balustrade and staircase to the terrace. The outer bays on the upper storey are projecting, contain a balcony door and are each crowned with a pediment that follows the same line as the gabled roof. In front of this on the veranda is a balcony with balustrade supported by four pillars. The living room has sliding doors in the middle bay and sash windows in the side bays. The middle bay on the upper storey is left blind. Upon it, in gilded letters, the name of the country house. In the gable a standing, oval oculus with a twelve-light glazing bars. On the left a low extension under flat roof. On the main roof a stone platform on which originally a sculptural work stood, representing the Greek Sun God Helenius or Helios, who standing in the sun chariot, drives his four horses. The right section of the house, covered by flat roofs, contains a tall and a low two-storey section. Both are one bay wide. The tall section with roof terrace has on the ground floor a room with double opening doors and along the entire width a frontal veranda with balustrade. Above the veranda a balcony, likewise supported by four pillars. The roof terrace has a balustrade with crenellations at the corners. On two crenellations facing the street a stone lion. The low section, the entrance bay, contains a double front door with carved panels. Before the entrance is a sandstone staircase with landing, which also provides access to the right veranda. At the rear the house has above the conservatory a balcony with balustrade. The side facades have bay windows under flat roofs. In the left side facade on the ground floor a three-sided and in the right facade a five-sided bay window over both storeys.
The front garden has a symmetrical layout with one entrance between masonry pilasters at the street. Around the country house a lawn flanked at the front by a lime tree and behind the house by groups of coniferous trees. On both sides of the lawn at the front of the house stand rhododendrons. Here lies in the middle of the lawn a circular approach drive, which rises slightly over the terrace in front of the house.
