Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Geheel zuidelijk op het terrein staat een FABRIEKSSCHOORSTEEN, gebouwd in Ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant. De schoorsteen dateert uit 1852 en is waarschijnlijk door Duitse of Belgische schoorsteenbouwers gebouwd. In Nederland kwam de schoorsteenbouw in radiaalsteen pas rond 1879 op gang. Daarmee is deze schoorsteen de oudste in radiaalstenen gebouwde schoorsteen van ons land en anno 1997 een van de laatste overgebleven fabrieksschoorstenen in Boxtel. De pijp is ontdaan van de kop met afdekmuts en diverse trekbanden zijn losgesprongen. Restauratie van de schoorsteen heeft eind 1997 een aanvang genomen.
Omschrijving.
Op een vierkante, bakstenen sokkel met per sokkelzijde twee rondboognissen en bovenop een natuurstenen afdekplaat, verheft zich een uit (Duitse of Belgische) radiaalstenen opgetrokken schoorsteenpijp van geringe hoogte en met een lichte valling. Om de ronde pijp diverse ijzeren trekbanden.
Waardering.
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als een bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van de linnennijverheid en de opkomst van wasserijen. Bovendien is het object in technisch en typologisch opzicht van industrieel-archeologisch belang.
Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van nationaal belang is. Verder heeft het object bijzondere betekenis wegens de markante functionele situering aan het Smalwater en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie hiermee. Wholly to the south of the site stands a FACTORY CHIMNEY, built in a traditional craftsman manner. The chimney dates from 1852 and was probably built by German or Belgian chimney builders. In the Netherlands radial brick chimney construction did not begin until around 1879. This makes this chimney the oldest factory chimney built in radial bricks in our country and in 1997 one of the last remaining factory chimneys in Boxtel. The shaft has been stripped of its cap with cover hood and various iron straps have come loose. Restoration of the chimney began at the end of 1997.
