Inleiding
De voormalige DOKTERSWONING ligt in het centrum van het dorp, naast kerk en herberg (aan de westzijde) en is naar het noorden gericht. Het gebouw ligt teruggerooid ten opzichte van de hoofdweg, met aan zowel de voor- als achterzijde een eenvoudige rechthoekige tuin.
De woning is in 1882 ontworpen in ECLECTISCHE stijl, getuige de eerste steen in de westgevel: "L.N. Molenaar, eerste steen gelegd 8 mei 1882".
De serres tegen de achter- en oostelijke zijgevels zijn beide van recente datum. Omdat de toegang tot het pand en het perceel waar het pand op staat ontzegd is door de eigenaar, is de beschrijving van het exterieur op een aantal punten onvolledig; de beschrijving van het interieur ontbreekt.
Omschrijving
Het één bouwlaag hoge, blokvormige pand wordt gedekt door een afgeknot schilddak met zwarte machinale tuile de Nord dakpannen en een schoorsteen. De plint aan de voorzijde en langs de zijgevels is van natuursteen. Het hoge doorlopend hoofdgestel is in het fries voorzien van horizontaal gelegen tweeruits lichtopeningen. In de dakschilden boven de achter- en de oostelijke zijgevels zijn forse bakstenen dakkapellen geplaatst met flauw hellend zadeldak en kroonlijst, en respectievelijk twee zesruits-vensters en één tweeruits, vernieuwd, venster. De voorgevel bestaat uit een breed middenrisaliet tussen twee symmetrische delen. Zij wordt geflankeerd door twee achtkantige zuilen met piron en bekroond door een gedecoreerd tympaan. Een stel tuindeuren, met twee enkelruits vensters aan weerszijden, vervangt de in oorsprong hier gesitueerde voordeur. De vensters zijn voorzien van gepleisterde wenkbrauwbogen met kuif op consoles. Hierboven bevindt over de hele breedte van het middenrisaliet een balkon met houten leuning en gietijzeren rasterwerk. Naast de balkondeur twee enkelruits vensters met daarboven rechthoekige gepleisterde en profileerde afsluiting met kuif op consoles. Aan beide zijden van het middenrisaliet zijn twee T-vensters geplaatst met gepleisterde wenkbrauwbogen met kuif op consoles. In de westgevel zitten een T-venster met segmentboog en een houten deur. Tegen deze gevel is de garage geplaatst. In de oostgevel zitten twee T-vensters, waarvan één schuil gaat achter een lange (vernieuwde) serre. Tegen de achtergevel is een nieuwe serre geplaatst met aan weerszijden T-vensters.
Waardering
De voormalige dokterswoning uit 1882 te Arum, gebouwd in eclectische stijl, is van cultuurhistorisch-en architectuurhistorisch belang:

The former DOCTOR'S HOUSE is located in the centre of the village, next to the church and inn (on the west side) and is oriented towards the north. The building is set back from the main road, with a simple rectangular garden on both the front and rear sides.
The house was designed in 1882 in ECLECTIC style, as evidenced by the foundation stone in the west facade: "L.N. Molenaar, foundation stone laid 8 May 1882".
The conservatories against the rear and east side facades are both of recent date. Because access to the building and the plot on which it stands was denied by the owner, the description of the exterior is incomplete on a number of points; the description of the interior is missing.
Description
The single-storey, cubic building is covered by a truncated hipped roof with black machine-made Tuile de Nord roof tiles and a chimney. The plinth on the front and along the side facades is of natural stone. The high continuous main cornice is provided in the frieze with horizontally positioned two-pane light openings. In the roof slopes above the rear and east side facades are substantial brick roof dormers with gently sloping gabled roofs and cornices, with respectively two six-pane windows and one two-pane, renovated, window. The front facade consists of a wide central projection between two symmetrical sections. It is flanked by two octagonal pillars with bases and crowned by a decorated tympanum. A set of garden doors, with two single-pane windows on either side, replaces the front door originally located here. The windows are provided with plastered eyebrow arches with curl brackets on consoles. Above this, spanning the full width of the central projection, is a balcony with wooden railings and cast-iron grille work. Next to the balcony door are two single-pane windows with above them rectangular plastered and profiled closure with curl bracket on consoles. On either side of the central projection are two T-windows placed with plastered eyebrow arches with curl bracket on consoles. In the west facade are a T-window with segmental arch and a wooden door. A garage is placed against this facade. In the east facade are two T-windows, one of which is concealed behind a long (renovated) conservatory. A new conservatory is placed against the rear facade with T-windows on either side.
