De mitrailleurKAZEMAT XVI uit 1933, met een afmeting van 9,6 X 9,8 m, diende ter bescherming van de noord-westelijke landtong. Er bevond zich een opstelling voor schijnwerpers en luisterapparatuur. Defensie had van Rijkswaterstaat één mitrailleurkazemat geëist zonder legeringsruimte in verband met de aanleg van de strekdammen, die een eventuele vijandelijke landingspoging konden vergemakkelijken. Vandaar dat Kazemat XVI qua vorm en uitvoering afwijkt van de andere kazematten. De kazemat heeft geen borstwering en is niet aangeaard maar heeft wel een rabat. Het trechtervormige, getrapte en van een vertanding van spoorstaven voorziene schietgat is tegenwoordig dichtgemetseld. Aan de oostzijde is een dikke betonplaat gestort zodat er geen projectielen achter de damwanden konden komen. De ingang bevindt zich aan de westzijde in een uitsparing in het verder nagenoeg vierkante gebouw. De groen/gele Duitse camouflageschildering is nog aanwezig. Het dak is voorzien van mastiek en langs de randen steken stalen stekeinden uit het beton ten behoeve van camouflagenetten; centraal zit het periscooppunt.

Kazemat XVI uit de Stelling van Kornwerderzand is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch, krijgshistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een technische en typologische ontwikkeling;
- vanwege de betekenis van het object als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, krijgshistorisch en architectuurhistorisch van algemeen belang is;

Description
The machine-gun CASEMATE XVI from 1933, with dimensions of 9.6 x 9.8 m, served to protect the north-western spit of land. There was a position for searchlights and listening apparatus. Defence had required from the State Water Board a machine-gun casemate without accommodation space in connection with the construction of the breakwaters, which could have facilitated a possible enemy landing attempt. Hence Casemate XVI differs in form and execution from the other casemates. The casemate has no parapet and is not earthed but does have a berm. The funnel-shaped, stepped firing aperture equipped with a serration of track rails is currently bricked up. On the east side a thick concrete slab has been poured so that no projectiles could get behind the sheet-pile walls. The entrance is located on the west side in a recess in the otherwise nearly square building. The green/yellow German camouflage paintwork is still present. The roof is covered with mastic and along the edges steel stubs project from the concrete for camouflage nets; centrally there is the periscope point.
