Inleiding

WAARDERING

Tuinpaviljoen van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang

- vanwege de karakteristieke en verzorgde rustieke uitdrukking van het beschermd verpozen in de buitenlucht in het halfopen bouwsel;

- vanwege de gave en stijlzuivere cottage-stijl;

Introduction

GARDEN PAVILION, built in 1927 according to a design by W.C. de Groot in the cottage style in the east of the garden of the Nieuw Sint Anthony hospital registered as a monument, monument number 24160.

The new hospital of Sint Anthoon, built in 1862/'64, is situated with its garden between and in front of the wings, facing south towards the area of the Perkswaltje which was filled in during the same period. In 1916, a garden pavilion was erected on the corner of the Wijde Gasthuissteeg and the Perkwaltje for the so-called corridor inhabitants, the poor residents of the small rooms in the low wings. After this second garden pavilion for the pensioners, the wealthier residents of the corner dwellings, was built much further to the east in 1927, the pavilion from 1916 became known as the green dome and the one from 1927 as the brown dome. Both pavilions were built facing east and are thus characteristic of the period before the sun cult movement that emerged in the nineteen thirties.

Description

EXTERIOR: Garden pavilion, built on a shallow and broad T-shaped ground plan, with the middle section projecting considerably forward and showing a gable top, provided with a compound hipped roof thatched with reed and fitted with frost tiles. On the parapet wall of rose-brown brick rising walls of horizontal parts with tongue and groove; in the gable top vertical parts. The rear and side walls entirely closed; the front side semi-open: each of the three elements a spacious rectangular opening between frames and fanlights and sidelights with panes in a small glazing bar division, in the projecting middle section with gable top a semi-circular fanlight with leaded glass. In front of the middle section a pergola of wooden columns and beams on brick parapet walls. Against the gable top a scroll ornament with the emblem of the hospital, the bell, and the construction year 1927.

INTERIOR: Internally in original condition with wooden floor and without fitted furniture or special finishes.

VALUATION

Garden pavilion of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance

- because of the characteristic and carefully executed rustic expression of protected outdoor relaxation in the semi-open building;

- because of the authentic and stylistically pure cottage style;

- because of the location at the rear in a well-maintained garden with maximum outlook and the relationship with the other pavilion.
