The register's description

Inleiding

- als typerend voorbeeld van toentertijd voorkomende betonnen voetbruggen over kleine waterlopen in de dorpen;

- vanwege de eenvoudige, maar verzorgde detaillering van het ontwerp;

- vanwege het toegepaste materiaal en de verwerkingswijze, namelijk monolithisch;

- vanwege de bijzondere betekenis van de brug voor de ontsluiting van de pastorie naar het kerkterrein;

Introduction

The concrete fixed PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE over the church moat presumably replaces an older wooden bridge at this location. The concrete is applied monolithically and was presumably cast on site. The symmetry and expression of the balustrade are related to the constrained Expressionism from the Interbellum period. On the basis of these stylistic considerations, the bridge is dated circa 1920-1930. The bridge provides access from the parsonage to the churchyard and the church.

Description

The concrete pedestrian bridge consists of a long bridge deck, two bridge abutments and two closed balustrades; abutments and bridge are marked by a pier. The balustrades are symmetrical and rise in steps towards the middle of the bridge. On the outside, the balustrades are enlivened by a smooth finish of the upper edges; the side walls are executed in pebble concrete.

Valuation

The concrete footbridge, dated on the basis of stylistic features to circa 1920-1930, is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:

- as a typical example of concrete pedestrian bridges over small watercourses in villages from that period;

- because of the simple, yet careful detailing of the design;

- because of the material used and the processing method, namely monolithic;

- because of the special significance of the bridge for access from the parsonage to the church grounds;

- because of the high quality of the bridge and the historical spatial relationship with greenery, buildings and watercourses.
