Inleiding

Introduction

The COUNTRY HOUSE "Koningshof" was built around 1865 in eclectical style. The client was the ship-owner Valkering from Germany, who had it built as a country residence. Some components from the R.C. Church and parsonage at Rinnegom demolished in 1858 have been incorporated into the house (windows upper floor, staircase). The property has its front facade facing east and is situated slightly elevated on a dune; it is accessible from the public road via a small drive.

Description

Rendered and red painted symmetrically structured property on a square floor plan, standing on a black painted plinth. The property consists of two storeys under a gently sloping east-west gabled roof with overhang and perpendicularly to the north a smaller gabled roof. Notable is that three of the facades visible from the road are decorated; the non-visible south facade has no detailing and is entirely blank. On the ridges of the three gables stand hoists.

On the north and east facades the corners of the property are accentuated by means of pilasters rendered in blocks with false joints, which are continued horizontally as ornamental bands between storey and attic and as it were form a frame around the ground floor and storey. On the front facade above the windows on the ground floor and storey is a profiled cornice-topped band. The facade openings, partly closed at the top with right angles and partly arch-shaped, are provided with decorative profiled bands with cornices; the rectangular windows all have rounded top corners. The symmetrically structured front facade (E) has five window bays with in the centre the entrance section, accentuated by a stone frame. The entrance consists of a double panelled door with cast-iron grilles in which two medallions with an image of a black falcon. Above the door is a fanlight. The stone band is partly fluted; at the level of the upper door panels there is on each side an image of a falcon. The horizontal capping band projects slightly forward and has a cornice in the centre.

In the remaining window bays on the ground floor double glass doors with fanlight to the garden. On the storey are five T-shaped sash windows, of which the middle one is slightly narrower than the others. Above the facade openings on both ground floor and storey are rendered right-angled profiled eyebrow arches which end in pear-shaped ornaments. The attic storey contains two small dormer windows under a semi-circular fanlight, accentuated by an ornamental band with the same design as that of the rectangular windows. Right at the top of the gable is a small wheel window with simple ornamental band around it.

The north facade has two window bays with on the ground floor and storey T-windows with identical detailing to those on the front facade. Top right on the storey is a blind window to maintain symmetry. Between the windows on the ground floor is a stone plaque with an image of a falcon depicted on it. At attic level two small dormer windows with semi-circular fanlights and in the gable top a small wheel window.

The asymmetrically arranged rear facade (W) has in the centre a wooden outbuilding (clog shed) (XXd) under an identically designed roof as the roof of the house. To the right of the clog shed are two double glass doors with fanlight as on the front facade and on the left a small arch-shaped small window and a T-window. On the storey are three arch-shaped windows with dormer windows and in the gable top two small attic windows with semi-circular fanlight and a wheel window.

The south facade is entirely blank. Under the roof edge the cut ends of the beam layer are visible, so that as it were an overhang can be spoken of.

Valuation

The country house Koningshof from around 1865 is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural historical value as a largely intact preserved country house in eclectical style, in which historical components from the old church of Rinnegom have been used. The country house has situational and landscape value because of its visually defining location at the foot of the dunes.
