Inleiding
VEEBRUG (paardentil), van het balkbrugtype, genaamd `Nieuwe til' gelegen op de kruising van de waterwegen Usquerdermaar en de Oude Weer in het Noord-Groningse wierdengebied. De brug is aangelegd in 1901 in opdracht van het toenmalig Waterschap Hunsingo op de plek van een oudere brug uit 1864. Toen de waterwegen in de 19e eeuw in gebruik werden genomen voor goederen- en personenvervoer, werden op kruispunten van vaarwegen smalle, hoge bruggetjes gebouwd. Door de aanleg van deze brug kon het trekpaard van de ene zijde naar de andere zijde overgezet worden, waardoor trekvaart in dit gebied mogelijk werd gemaakt. Door de hoge ligging is de brug een dominerend ruimtelijk element in het omringende landschap. Tegenwoordig heeft de brug haar functie verloren en wordt zij gebruikt als fiets- en voetgangersbrug.
Omschrijving
VEEBRUG (paardentil) bestaande uit drie gebogen ijzeren I-balken, onderling verbonden door dwarsdragers waarover een niet-origineel (houten) wegdek is gelegd. Aan weerszijden van de brug bevindt zich een brugleuning van geklonken ijzeren stijlen en regels. De brug rust op landhoofden van wulfmuren en kubbestijlen (wanden van ijzeren stijlen waartussen verticale troggewelven van baksteen) en twee ijzeren jukken bestaande uit stijlen gekoppeld door regels en voorzien van gekruiste diagonalen (T-profiel) die rusten op een betonnen voet. Voor de jukken bevinden zich houten meerpalen.

CATTLE BRIDGE (horse lift), of the girder bridge type, named 'Nieuwe til' situated at the junction of the waterways Usquerdermaar and the Oude Weer in the North Groningen wierde area. The bridge was built in 1901 on the orders of the then Waterschap Hunsingo on the site of an older bridge from 1864. CATTLE BRIDGE (horse lift) consisting of three curved iron I-beams, interconnected by cross girders over which a non-original (wooden) deck has been laid. On either side of the bridge is a bridge railing of riveted iron standards and rails. The bridge rests on abutments of wulf walls and post-and-sill walls (walls of iron standards with vertical trough vaults of brick between them) and two iron frames consisting of standards coupled by rails and fitted with crossed diagonals (T-section) resting on a concrete base. In front of the frames are wooden mooring posts.
