Omschrijving
Inleiding
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een maatschappelijke en geestelijke ontwikkeling;
- vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp;
- als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch van nationaal belang is;
- vanwege de in redelijk grote mate aanwezig architectonische gaafheid van exterieur en interieur;

Description
Introduction
The RECTORY belonging to the Roman Catholic ecclesiastical complex St. Vitus is, like the Neo-Gothic church, built between 1867 and 1871 according to the design of P.H.J. Cuypers in a Craftsman-traditional building style with Art Nouveau motifs. In the execution the later national government architect C.H. Peters was involved. The construction was awarded to contractor O.H. Schuurmans at IJlst. The rectory which lies to the west of the church is oriented towards the south-west and is surrounded by a spacious garden. Following a renovation in the years 1938/1941 the building underwent a slight change in appearance: at that time, among other things, the two greenhouses on the west and south sides were added. The building, like the church, was restored in 1991-93.
Description
The rectory on a rectangular ground plan is entirely cellar-vaulted, two storeys high, is covered by an overhanging gabled roof on wooden blocks with slate and two chimneys and is constructed of brown brick; yellow bricks are used for the decorative elements such as the double curved bands above the windows and the bands between the windows. The high basement, which has two basement windows, is marked off by a natural stone drip moulding. The front facade is divided by pilasters into three bays. On the ground floor from left to right are the entrance part, two arched windows with two-light fanlight and a bay window; on the upper floor four arched T-windows. The first and second storeys are separated from each other by a band of decorative brickwork. The entrance is located in a porch with natural stone trim with geometric Art Nouveau motifs. In the square fanlight sits a stained glass image of the Good Shepherd. In front of the porch lies a natural stone step with seven treads flanked by brick walls. The south facade is likewise divided by pilasters into three bays and enlivened with decorative brickwork in yellow brick. On the ground floor from left to right: a T-window and the greenhouse with multi-paned fanlights; on the upper floor two T-windows; in the gable, with simply worked weathervane, two smaller single-paned windows and a narrow blind window. The rear facade is symmetrically arranged. In the basement sit four basement windows; on the south side on the ground floor sit two T-windows under arched band, on the north side two smaller T-windows with two-light fanlight under arched band; on the upper floor two T-windows. The INTERIOR of the rectory is unchanged in layout: the ground plan is rectangular. Via the small hall is the corridor accessible, which leads on the left to the church and on the right to the various rooms. Between hall and corridor is a wooden double door with checked stained glass. The staircase, on the right of the corridor, has a solid wooden handrail of which the newel post has been replaced by a curved closure with carving in geometric Art Nouveau motifs. The furnishing of the rooms is very austere and partly still original. Notable are among other things the wooden panelled doors which are provided with wooden door frames carved with geometric motifs, some of which have semicircular stained glass fanlights (on the ground floor) and (on the upper floor) with tympanum-like closure. Further, between the two living rooms on the upper floor, a double wooden door with checked stained glass in the central section. On the second floor are situated the bedrooms.
Valuation
The rectory, belonging to the Roman Catholic ecclesiastical complex St. Vitus Church at Blauwhuis (consecrated 1872), is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development;
- because of the aesthetic qualities of the design;
- as an essential component of a larger whole which is of national importance in cultural-historical and architectural-historical terms;
- because of the reasonably high degree of architectural integrity of exterior and interior;
- in relation to the structural and visual integrity of the entire ecclesiastical complex and the village surroundings.
