GRAFMONUMENT uit 1927 in Art Déco-stijl, voor Pieter Fentener van Vlissingen.
Omschrijving
De grafzerk is uitgevoerd in natuursteen en staat op een sokkel.
Op de rechthoekige sokkel zijn diverse voorstellingen uit de natuur, zoals een spin in een web, aangebracht. Voorts de naam, Pieter Fentener van Vlissingen, en levensdata, 1853-1927. Hierop een in lotushouding zittende man met gesloten ogen, de linkerhand geheven en de rechterhand rustend op een boek dat voor hem op een verhoging ligt. Achter het hoofd van het gestileerd gesculpteerde werk afbeeldingen van zon en sterren.
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als getuigenis van de grafcultuur der hervomde gemeenten in Zuid-Nederland. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek, vanwege de esthetische kwaliteit en de uitzonderlijke iconografie. Description
The gravestone is executed in natural stone and stands on a base.
On the rectangular base various natural representations, such as a spider in a web, are depicted. Furthermore the name, Pieter Fentener van Vlissingen, and life dates, 1853-1927. On this a man sitting in lotus position with closed eyes, the left hand raised and the right hand resting on a book placed on a pedestal before him. Behind the head of the stylised sculptured work depictions of sun and stars.
Valuation
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as evidence of the burial culture of the Reformed communities in South Netherlands. It has art-historical value on account of material use and ornamentation, on account of aesthetic quality and exceptional iconography.
