Inleiding
SCHOOLGEBOUW, in 1939 gebouwd als Utrechtse Industrie en Huishoudschool naar ontwerp van H.F. Mertens, uitgevoerd in een op het Funktionalisme geïnspireerde stijl en gelegen aan de noordzijde van wat resteert van het park Nieuweroord.
Omschrijving De school heeft een van een rechthoek afgeleide plattegrond met een door zuilen omsloten binnenplaats, telt drie bouwlagen en een plat dak. Het rechterdeel van de voorgevel springt iets naar voren. De lokalen zijn gelegen aan de buitengevels, de ontsluitingsgang aan de binnenplaats. Het trappenhuis is gesitueerd op de binnenplaats, midden tegen de achtervleugel. Op de binnenplaats vóór het trappenhuis is een driekwart cirkelvormige uitbouw, waarop een balkon. Voor de uitbouw ligt een vijver.
De open doorgang naar de binnenhof heeft afgeronde hoeken en ligt symmetrisch in de voorste vleugel. Alle vensters zijn van staal, op de verdiepingen komen in de vensteropeningen twee fors uitgevoerde stijlen voor. Ook voor de onderdoorgang, de balkons aan de buitengevel en de kolommen en lateien is met bouwpleister afgewerkt beton gebruikt. De baksteenmuren zijn als spouwmuren uitgevoerd met een buitenspouwblad van gele baksteen. De gevels aan de binnenhof hebben een terugliggende eerste bouwlaag met betonnen zuilen en eenvoudige stalen vensters in de tweede en derde bouwlaag. Inwendig een indeling van acht lokalen per verdieping, de voormalige directricekamer op begane grond in afgeronde deel van de oostgevel en een tweede trappenhuis in westgevel. Het interieur van de lokalen, respectievelijk de voormalige directricekamer is in de loop der tijd in meer of mindere mate gewijzigd en is van ondergeschikt belang. De aanbouw aan de achterzijde van het pand is van latere datum (omstr.1960) en is eveneens van ondergeschikt belang.
