Inleiding
Reeks van 4 WOONHUIZEN met voortuinen met ijzeren hek tussen gemetselde pijlers. Gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect R. Rijksen in 1898 in een op Heroriëntatie gerichte bouwstijl. De huizen behoren samen met de woonhuizen Ramstraat 2-16 en Emmalaan 1-33 tot de parkaanleg aan de Emmalaan.
Omschrijving
De panden in de reeks hebben ieder drie bouwlagen. De kap is gevarieerd, gedekt met rode en blauwe kruispan in patronen gelegd. Het meest opvallendste kenmerk van de gevels zijn de verspringende bouwdelen en de grillige daklijn (steekkappen in verschillende vorm en uitvoering). Tevens worden de gevels nog verlevendigd door in verschillende vorm uitgevoerde erkers in baksteen en hout. Als constante in de gevel keert de boogvormige beëindiging van de vensters terug, opgevuld met uitgevoerde gekleurde baksteen patronen.
Opvallend element is de zorgvuldige en decoratieve afwerking van de houten onderdelen zoals te zien is aan de dakkapellen en de klossen waar de brede houten overstek op rust.
De panden zijn met de voor(noord)gevel gelegen aan de rechte parkaanleg van de Emmalaan, naar ontwerp van H. Loran. De (achter)gevel aan de Ramstraat is even zorgvuldig vormgegeven met ondermeer houten paneeldeuren met zwaar ijzerbeslag.
Waardering
Vier woonhuizen met voortuinen en hekwerken van algemeen velang vanwege de architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de originaliteit van het ontwerp en de uitvoering en als onderdeel van oeuvre van architect J. Description
The buildings in the row each have three storeys. The roof is varied, covered with red and blue glazed ridge tiles laid in patterns. The most striking feature of the facades are the projecting building sections and the irregular roofline (roof gables in various forms and executions). The facades are further enlivened by oriel windows in various forms executed in brick and wood. A constant feature of the facade is the arched termination of the windows, filled with executed coloured brick patterns.
