Inleiding
Woonblok van vier geschakelde HERENHUIZEN, in één opzet met voortuinen met ijzeren hek tussen gemetselde pijlers. Gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect R. Rijksen in 1898 in een door Heroriëntatie bepaalde architectuurstijl waarin zowel invloeden van chaletstijl als neorenaissance zijn te herkennen. De huizen behoren samen met de panden Emmalaan 1-19; 29-41 tot de geplande bebouwing aan de parkaanleg van de Emmalaan.
Omschrijving
De rij woonhuizen bezitten een grillige plattegrond, zijn in baksteen opgetrokken, hebben ieder drie bouwlagen. De kap met diverse dakkapellen, al dan niet gekoppeld, is gevarieerd gedekt met rode en blauwe kruispan. Het meest opvallende kenmerk van de gevels zijn de verspringende bouwdelen en de grillige daklijn (steekkappen in verschillende vorm en uitvoering). Tevens worden de gevels nog verlevendigd door in verschillende vorm uitgevoerde erkers in baksteen en hout. Als constante in de gevel keert de boogvormige beëindiging van de vensters terug, opgevuld met talloze gekleurde baksteen patronen. Daarnaast komt verspreid over de gehele voorgevel diverse soort siermetselwerk voor als muizetand- zaagtand, blokfries voor.
Opvallend element is de zorgvuldige en decoratieve afwerking van de houten onderdelen zoals te zien is aan de dakkapellen en de klossen waar de brede houten overstek op rust.
De panden zijn met voor(noord)gevel gelegen aan de parkaanleg van de Emmalaan naar ontwerp van H. Loran. De achtergevels aan de Ramstraat zijn even zorgvuldig uitgevoerd met onder meer opvallende paneeldeuren met zwaar ijzerbeslag.
Waardering
Vier woonhuizen in een op Heroriëntatie gerichte bouwstijl met tuinen en hekwerken van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de originaliteit van het ontwerp en de uitvoering en als onderdeel van oeuvre van architect J. Residential block of four terrace TOWNHOUSES, in one design with front gardens with iron fence between mortared piers. Built according to a design by architect R. The houses belong together with the buildings Emmalaan 1-19; 29-41 to the planned development at the park layout of the Emmalaan.
Description
The row of residences has an irregular floor plan, are constructed in brick, each has three storeys. The roof with various dormer windows, whether or not coupled, is variously covered with red and blue pantiles. The most striking characteristic of the facades are the projecting building elements and the irregular roofline (roof ridges in different form and execution).
