WOONBLOK van 42 FLATWONINGEN in opdracht van woningbouwvereniging `Het nieuwe Woonhuis' gebouwd in 1924 naar ontwerp van de architecten Jan en Theo Stuivinga in Amsterdamse Schoolstijl.
Omschrijving
Woonblok, met telkens zes woningen per trappenhuis, verdeeld in vijf verschillende type woningen. Het woonblok is evenwijdig geplaatst aan een soortgelijke reeks aan de Rembrandtkade, tezamen een ensemble vormend. De onderkelderde flats hebben grotendeels drie bouwlagen, bij de hoekblokken is de derde bouwlaag verticaal bekleed met pannen. Het gehele blok heeft met pannen gedekte schilddaken. In baksteen en hout opgetrokken gevels, met een basement met in donker baksteen uitgevoerde horizontale banden. De trappenhuizen zijn als halfronde erkers over de verdiepingen uitgebouwd (aan de uiteinde van het bouwblok in hout uitgevoerd) en hebben boven rondboogvormige deuren, aan weerszijden honingraatvormige ramen. Ter plaatse van de verdiepingsvloeren zijn in het trappenhuis telkens, door roede ingedeelde, meerstrooksvensters geplaatst. De meerstrooksvensters zijn veelal van nieuwe kozijnen voorzien. In de kap per travee een dakkapel en schoorsteen. Achtergevel in sobere stijl uitgevoerd, met houten balkons.
Interieur met ruime hal, waaromheen de diverse vertrekken zijn gesitueerd.
Voorts in diverse vertrekken nog schoorsteenmantels aanwezig. De portieken hebben nog de originele betegeling en betimmering.
Waardering
Reeks van 42 flatwoningen van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als redelijk gaaf voorbeeld van in Amsterdamse School stijl gebouwde flatwoningen, voorts als onderdeel van oeuvre van de gebroeders Jan en Theo Stuivinga. Van stedenbouwkundige waarde vanwege de ligging en ensemblewaarde in relatie met het soortgelijke bouwblok aan de Rembrandtkade. Van cultuurhistorische waarde als goed voorbeeld van de vroege geschiedenis van de volkshuisvesting uit het eerste kwart van de 20ste eeuw.

Residential block, with six dwellings per stairwell each, divided into five different types of dwellings. The residential block is placed parallel to a similar row at the Rembrandtkade, together forming an ensemble. The undercellared flats have largely three storeys, at the corner blocks the third storey is vertically clad with tiles. The entire block has hipped roofs covered with tiles. Facades constructed in brick and wood, with a basement with horizontal bands executed in dark brick.
