Inleiding
SCHOOLGEBOUW van de Openbare Lagere School ('Koningin Wilhelminaschool'), in 1918 naar ontwerp van architect S.F Loeb gebouwd in een stijl verwant aan het werk van H.P. Berlage, met SCHOOLPLEIN, ONDERWIJZERSWONING en HEK. De school is gelegen op een driehoekig terrein tussen de Minstroom, de Laan van Mecklenburg en de Nicolaasweg.
Omschrijving
Schoolgebouw op L-vormige plattegrond, bestaande uit een lokalenvleugel (nd-zd-as) rechts van twee bouwlagen met kap, in een stompe hoek daarop staande vleugel met dienstruimten en een gymnastieklokaal van één bouwlaag met geknikt zadeldak. In de binnenhoek tussen de vleugels aan de Mecklenburglaan (noordzijde) is een toren gesitueerd, met de ingangspartij en trappenhuis met glas-in-lood vensters. Toren op vierkante plattegrond, met ingang in rondboogvormig portaal. De ongelede toren wordt beëindigd met een uitkragende gemetselde lijst. De in omvang kleinere opbouw die de toren afsluit bezit per gevel drie vierkante vensters, afgesloten met een gootlijst, waarboven een tentdak met pannen gedekt. Aan de Mecklenburglaan ligt het schoolplein, omzoomd door een entreehek met pijlers. De ingang heeft gemetselde, halfronde muurtjes, die tevens als bankjes vormgegeven zijn. Gevels opgetrokken in baksteen met oranje en zwarte geglazuurde tegels ter decoratie. De vleugel rechts met de schoollokalen heeft aan de pleinzijde een vrij gesloten gevel met smalle houten vensters met ruitvormige roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten, op de beganegrond een dubbele houten deur met boven- en zijlichten. De achtergevel aan de Nicolaasweg is opener met klaslokaal-ramen, per lokaal 3 maal 3 vensters. Deze vleugel met het gymnastieklokaal heeft een identieke vormgeving, met een vrij gesloten gevel aan de Mecklenburglaan en een gevel met grote vensters aan de Minstroom.
De blinde kopgevel van het gymnastieklokaal aan de Mecklenburgzijde heeft een gevelsteen met bloemmotieven.
Op de kop van de Mecklenburglaan en de Nicolaasweg is het schoolgebouw via gemetselde tuinmuurtjes verbonden met een onderwijzerswoning op rechthoekige plattegrond. De woning is opgetrokken in vergelijkbare stijl als de school. Gericht op de Mecklenburglaan is de monumentale ingang met gemetselde pilasters en houten lijst, voor de ingang een stoep. Voorts vrij dichte gevels.

Description
School building on L-shaped floor plan, consisting of a classroom wing (north-south axis) to the right of two storeys with roof, standing at an obtuse angle to it a wing with service rooms and a gymnasium of one storey with angled gabled roof. In the inner angle between the wings at the Mecklenburglaan (north side) is situated a tower, with the entrance section and stairwell with leaded glass windows. Tower on square floor plan, with entrance in a round-arched portal. The plain tower is terminated with a projecting moulded string course. The smaller superstructure crowning the tower has per façade three square windows, closed with a cornice, above which is a hip roof with tile covering. At the Mecklenburglaan is the school yard, bordered by an entrance fence with piers. The entrance has moulded, semicircular walls, which are also shaped as benches. Façades built in brick with orange and black glazed tiles for decoration. The wing to the right with the school classrooms has on the yard side a fairly closed façade with narrow wooden windows with diamond-patterned glazing bars in the fanlights, on the ground floor a double wooden door with fanlight and side lights. The rear façade on the Nicolaasweg is more open with classroom windows, per classroom 3 by 3 windows. This wing with the gymnasium has identical design, with a fairly closed façade on the Mecklenburglaan and a façade with large windows on the Minstroom.
The blank end gable of the gymnasium on the Mecklenburg side has a façade stone with floral motifs.
At the corner of the Mecklenburglaan and the Nicolaasweg the school building is connected via moulded garden walls to a schoolmaster's house on rectangular floor plan. The dwelling is built in a comparable style to the school. Facing the Mecklenburglaan is the monumental entrance with moulded pilasters and wooden cornice, in front of the entrance a step. Otherwise fairly closed façades.
