Inleiding
UNIVERSITEITSGEBOUW, in 1896 voor de universiteit gebouwd als Pharmacologisch INSTITUUT in neo-renaissance stijl, gesitueerd in de gesloten gevelwand aan de noordzijde van de Minrebroederstraat.
Omschrijving
Dubbelpand bestaande uit links een smal drielaags met trapgevel afgesloten bouwdeel en rechts evenwijdig aan de straattgelegen tweelaags bouwdeel, uitgevoerd in baksteen en natuursteen onder afgeplat schilddak met leien belegd. Het linker bouwdeel telt twee venstertraveeën. Onder korfbogen gezette deur en kruisvensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten en vensterluiken (begane grond en verdieping). Voorts is de gevel gedecoreerd met sierankers en het opschrift "RENOVAT 1896". Het rechter deel van de voorgevel van twee bouwlagen is zeven traveeën breed en heeft eveneens kruisvensters in de eerste bouwlaag onder korfbogen met in het boogveld uit het muurvlak doorlopend metselwerk, in de tweede ontlast door strekken. Voorts onder meer sierankers en natuurstenen lijsten en sluitstenen. De ingang is uitgevoerd in baksteen met natuurstenen poortje, opgebouwd uit twee pilasterstellingen met in de bovenste een oculus met aanweerszijden een putto, onder een kroonlijst met fronton waarin sterk verweerd beeldhouwwerk. In de kroonlijst boven de halfrond afgesloten deur gevat in een Florentijnse boog, het opschrift "PHARMACOLOGISCH INSTITUUT".
Op de kap drie door met leien belegde aangekapte zadeldakjes met fronton.

Als Pharmacologisch instituut gebouwd UNIVERSITEITSGEBOUW, bestaande uit twee bouwdelen, van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een universiteitsgebouw opgetrokken in neo-renaissance stijl. UNIVERSITY BUILDING, built in 1896 for the university as a Pharmacological INSTITUTE in neo-Renaissance style, situated in the closed facade wall on the north side of the Minrebroederstraat.
Description
Double building consisting on the left of a narrow three-storey building section closed with a stepped gable and on the right a two-storey building section parallel to the street, executed in brick and natural stone beneath a hipped roof with slate covering. The left building section has two window bays. Door and cross windows with leaded glass fanlights and shutters set beneath basket arches (ground floor and first storey). Furthermore the facade is decorated with ornamental wall anchors and the inscription "RENOVAT 1896". The right part of the front facade of two storeys is seven bays wide and likewise has cross windows in the first storey beneath basket arches with brickwork extending from the wall surface in the arch field, in the second storey relieved by courses. Furthermore among other elements ornamental wall anchors and natural stone mouldings and quoins. The entrance is executed in brick with natural stone portal, built up from two pilaster arrangements with in the upper one an oculus with a putto on either side, beneath a cornice with pediment containing heavily weathered sculpture. In the cornice above the semi-circular closed door set in a Florentine arch, the inscription "PHARMACOLOGICAL INSTITUTE".
On the roof three attached saddle rooflets with slate covering and pediments.
Valuation
Built as a Pharmacological institute, this UNIVERSITY BUILDING consisting of two building sections is of general importance due to its architectural-historical value as an example of a university building constructed in neo-Renaissance style. Also due to its cultural-historical value on account of the function which is connected with the still nascent Pharmacological education at the beginning of the 1900s.
