Inleiding

Introduction

The Roman Catholic RECTORY of the Holy Vincentius and Saint Antonius of Padua parish is a block-shaped building with high roof section, located on the southern side of the Roman Catholic church. It was built around 1937 in traditional Delft School style by architects M. van Beek and C. van Moorsel.

Description

The building has an L-shaped floor plan, comprises two storeys and is covered by a bent gabled roof with improved Dutch tiles. On the roof a substantial chimney with a copper cap. Via an intermediate section with garage and corridor under gabled roof the rectory is connected to the church. The asymmetrical front facade has five window bays and is constructed in brick. To the left of centre is in a shallow portico with barrel arch an attached front door with side lights and theft bars. Above the barrel arch a tufa stone facade stone with the inscription: "PAX". To the right of the door a tufa stone letterbox with the inscription: "POST". In the front facade are four-pane windows with terracotta lintels placed, whether or not executed with attached shutters. On the southern side is the living room, with in the front and side facades opening six-pane windows with built-in wooden roller shutters.

The rear facade and the southern side gable have on the storey four-pane windows, partly protected by theft bars. At the location of the living room a conservatory was later added to the rear. In the southern peaked gable a small circular window lights the attic.

Valuation

The rectory is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is also important as an example of the typological development of the village rectory in the Interbellum. The building has architectural-historical importance through the style and the detailing and is also important as an example of the oeuvre of architects Van Moorsel and Van Beek. It has ensemble values because of the particular siting, connected with the development and relocation of the church village of Velp after 1900. It is important because of the architectural-historical and typological rarity.
