Inleiding
Het natuurstenen GEDENKTEKEN -een klip of poer met gedenksteen en zinken vaas- is in het Wilhelmina Park te Sneek geplaatst ter gelegenheid van de kroning van Koningin Wilhelmina op 31 augustus 1898. Het monument staat in het centrum van het trapeziumvormige park, op een heuveltje, in de schaduw van een lindeboom, waarvan het oorspronkelijke exemplaar voor dezelfde gelegenheid is geplant. Het opschrift luidt: "31 Aug. 1898. Ter herinnering aan de kroning van H.M. Koningin Wilhelmina is deze linde geplant." Het monument, met klassieke hoofdvorm, is ontworpen door Tj. Hommes in een stijl waarbij elementen van de Neo-barok met voluten en palmetten zijn toegepast. Aannemer J.A. de Graaf maakte de klip en steenhouwerij S. Hofstra vervaardigde het monument. De oorspronkelijke zinken vaas, waarin een loden kokertje met oorkonde werd bewaard, is geleverd door Fa. Louwmans en Co. Stoomfabriek. Het monument is gerestaureerd in de winter van 1990-1991 door steenhouwersbedrijf de Koninklijke Steenklip. De huidige vaas, gemaakt door Mous Siersmeedwerk te Bakhuizen, is in 1992 geplaatst ter vervanging van het originele, vernielde exemplaar. De originele oorkonde is bij die gelegenheid in de nieuwe vaas teruggeplaatst, samen met een nieuw exemplaar, vervaardigd door drukkerij H. Doevendans B.V. te Sneek. De oude lindeboom, die enkele jaren na de Tweede Wereld Oorlog ziek werd, is door een nieuwe linde vervangen.
Omschrijving
Het natuurstenen gedenkteken bestaat uit een rechthoekig, laag basement, een vrij hoog parallellepipedum en hierop, staand, een piramidaal stuk. De korte zijden van het parallellepipedum worden gedecoreerd door natuurstenen klauwen; op het piramidale onderdeel zijn, boven de voluutvormige ornamenten, twee grote natuurstenen palmetbladeren "gelegd"; op de afgestompte top is de vaas geplaatst, waar in een loden koker zowel de oude als de nieuwe oorkonde worden bewaard. Naast het monument staat de lindeboom.
Waardering

Introduction
The natural stone MEMORIAL—a boulder or cairn with memorial stone and zinc urn—was placed in the Wilhelmina Park in Sneek on the occasion of the coronation of Queen Wilhelmina on 31 August 1898. The monument stands in the centre of the trapezoidal park, on a small hill, in the shade of a linden tree, the original specimen of which was planted for the same occasion. The inscription reads: "31 Aug. 1898. In memory of the coronation of H.M. Queen Wilhelmina this linden was planted." The monument, with a classical main form, was designed by Tj. Hommes in a style in which elements of the Neo-Baroque with volutes and palmettes are applied. Contractor J.A. de Graaf made the boulder and stonemasonry firm S. Hofstra made the monument. The original zinc urn, in which a lead tube containing a charter was kept, was supplied by Fa. Louwmans and Co. Stoomfabriek. Description
The natural stone memorial consists of a rectangular, low basement, a fairly high parallelepiped and, standing on this, a pyramidal section. The short sides of the parallelepiped are decorated by natural stone claws; on the pyramidal section, above the volute-shaped ornaments, two large natural stone palmette leaves are "laid"; on the truncated top the urn is placed, in which a lead tube holds both the old and the new charter. Next to the monument stands the linden tree.
