Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 2:

Description
Description component 2:
HISTORIC PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT (2) Based on the prints by Roghman, it must be assumed that the house was still surrounded mainly by pasture and/or arable land for much of the 17th century. Presumably there was a planted approach avenue, connecting to the entrance gate. Topographic maps from the 19th century provide some further information about the layout around the house. The approach avenue is clearly visible, as is a second avenue on the rear side between the main house and the carriage house, over the moat to the Binnenmaas. On either side of this, something of a possible ornamental layout or kitchen garden can be seen. The layout can be roughly divided into three sections, namely the moated house site, the layout to the south of it, and the layout to the west of it. The moated house site is rectangular in shape. The moat runs from the quay and proceeds with two right angles to the front. This layout must be counted as part of the original late medieval arrangement. At the front of the house, the ground is again divided by a watercourse into two narrow plots. On the western part, an approach avenue has been laid out in a winding style in a landscape manner and planted with planes. The avenue ends at a modest forecourt. This avenue was relaid after 1900. The eastern narrow plot is planted with trees. Within the moat, behind the house there is a simple landscape layout with a lawn, bordering vegetation and several large specimen trees, some of which are probably older than 1900 and have been deliberately preserved. Subsequently, to the south of the moat, a layout created shortly after 1900. Although the avenue to the Binnenmaas has disappeared, this part is still divided into two sections by the way it is laid out. The western part is laid out in landscape style with a solitary red beech as a centrepiece and a rhododendron group. In front of this is the sundial. In the eastern part, the kitchen garden was laid out within the kitchen garden wall. The kitchen garden has disappeared except for the greenhouses, and the layout has been renewed in recent years in geometric language with a likewise recently built rose arbour. Around this whole, there is a fairly dense vegetation of tall trees through which a walk has been created. On the rear side of this wood at the edge of the Binnenmaas, a dog grave is found with the inscription "Tip 1894 - 1904". Finally, the layout to the east of the house site. Here the older formal structure has been maintained, albeit in a simple design consisting of an almost square meadow surrounded by a tree belt through which a walk is possible. This part and the house site, i.e. the southern layout, are connected by a fruit tree avenue.
Valuation The HISTORIC PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT is significant because of - the integrity of the early 20th-century layout with retention of older (formal) components.
