Omschrijving
- vanwege de relatie met het vroeg-19de-eeuwse (1813) hoofdgebouw, dat door vormgeving en ligging een opvallend monumentaal laat-Empire element is binnen een hoogwaardige vroeg-19de-eeuwse aanleg (1813);
- vanwege de bij de buitenplaats behorende aanleg, bestaande uit een vroeg-19de-eeuws omgracht binnenpark in landschapsstijl met monumentale beplanting en wandelingen in en rond het park, en een buitenpark met drie 17de-eeuwse lanen en 18de-eeuwse bosvakken met restanten van slingerpaden;
- vanwege het voorkomen van een aantal waardevolle complexonderdelen die ruimtelijk en functioneel met het hoofdgebouw en de aanleg verbonden zijn;
- vanwege de hoge ruimtelijke en tuinarchitectonische kwaliteiten.

Description
Description
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Dickninge. The layout consists of an inner and an outer park. The layout of the inner park in landscape style was probably realised shortly after the completion of the Neoclassical house in 1813. The INNER PARK in landscape style is surrounded by a moat, in fact a branch of the Reest, and has a fairly enclosed character with a number of views outward. The moat dates from the time of the monastery. The OUTER PARK to the north of the Reest is likewise surrounded by a waterway and consists of an open meadow surrounded by tall trees (sessile oak, white horse chestnut, beech and common maple). The outer park is accessible on the north side via a wooden ornamental gate and on the east side via a wooden footbridge. A circular walk runs through both parks, which connects at the footbridge. The structure of the layout is supported by three 17th-century avenues, which meet at the access bridge on the boundary between inner and outer park (complex component no. 5): the straight approach drive planted with oaks in triangular formation, which leads to the Schiphorsterweg, where it is marked by a multiple stone gatework with the inscription Dickninge Anno 1817; the so-called Koops-allee, the avenue lined with double rows of oaks running from the access bridge in a north-westerly direction to the farmhouse 't Hogeland and the oak avenue running in a north-easterly direction which curves behind the house Voorwijk and ends at the village boundary of De Wijk. At the bridge also emerges the semi-paved road which via the toll house, also part of Dickninge, and the Beugelenbrug, leads to the hamlet Halfweg to the south-west. Between the avenues there are still several production woodland areas, a coppice wood (including sessile oak) and several woodland compartments with beech and sessile oak with winding paths, alternating with meadows. A gently curved path around the lawn laid out as a park meadow with solitary trees and groups of trees, named 'de Aanleg', leads from the access bridge in a south-westerly direction to the main building and in a southerly direction to the former farmhouse 'Het Bouwhuis'. The house is also accessible via a winding path through the lawn. To the left of 'de Aanleg' lies a small woodland walk with a hill around which two paths ran, which are now overgrown. East of the farmhouse lies the rectangular, partially walled kitchen garden with pond. Directly to the south of the farmhouse lies the ice house. In the open spaces in front of and behind the house, the garden architect Leonard A. Springer laid out in 1910 respectively undulating lawns with flower borders and a flower garden in the New Architectonic garden style. Of this geometric layout, only a few elements of the boxwood pattern, two yews and some flowering shrubs remain to the south of the house. Next to the house stands a monumental solitary copper beech. From the house runs a vista in a southerly direction with unobstructed views of the Reest valley. Along the outer edge of the INNER PARK, parallel to the little river Reest, runs an extensive winding walk around the house, which also includes the farmhouse 'Het Bouwhuis' with part of its agricultural plots with the kitchen garden. From the path there are various sight lines. Fishermen's pool. This layout was certainly already in place in 1819, as evidenced by the travel journal cited in the complex description. Characteristic of the layout is the use of strongly and less strongly curved lines: within the moated area, there are gently curved lines which appear most natural in perspective; outside the moated area, gently undulating paths were used particularly. An important part of the layout is determined by sight axes in the western part of the inner park. The axes from the house are directed towards the servants' house (Schiphorsterweg 42), the northern access bridge, the toll house, the row of beeches west of the house (new planting obscures this view), a point south-west of the house towards the dovecote, the southern bridge, the hill on the south side of the park. To the west of the park in landscape style lies the moated outer park with a circular path around a meadow and building land (the common). The path surrounded by hedgerows and wooded banks has partly avenue planting of beeches and a few solitary trees (plane and an 18th-century oak). The path leads through a so-called 'Kraaienbosje' (crow wood) of mixed deciduous trees. Across the common runs a remnant of the old postal road from Antwerp to Groningen. The layout further consists of meadows and late 18th-century production forests ('Tipbos'), which are intersected by two straight 17th-century avenues and a few winding paths. This section lacks the pronounced design characteristics of the inner park. Both parks do not appear to have been designed in relation to each other.
