Inleiding:
Voormalig BANKGEBOUW, gebouwd in 1928, op de hoek van de Schiedamse Vest en Witte de Withstraat in traditionalistische trant.
Omschrijving:
Bankgebouw van vier bouwlagen en een kelderverdieping. Het pand is opgetrokken op een min of meer rechthoekig grondplan, waarbij de hoek aan de Schiedamse Vest/Witte de Withstraat driezijdig is afgeschuind. De gevels zijn opgetrokken op een basement van natuursteen met rusticamotief. De eerste bouwlaag, de omlijsting van de hoofdingang en de aanzet van de arkeltoren zijn bekleed met travertijn. De overige geveldelen zijn opgetrokken in donkerrode baksteen. Het pand heeft een overkragend plat dak met mastiek bedekking. Op de begane grond rondboogvensters met stalen kruisgeleding. Op de eerste en tweede verdieping bevinden zich hoge rechthoekige vensters. De baksteenvelden tussen de vensters zijn doorlopend over eerste en tweede verdieping verdikt als lisenen.
Direct onder de uitstekende daklijst bevindt zich op de derde verdieping een strook vierkante tweeledige vensters met een massieve afgeronde witte omlijsting. Deze vensterstrook wordt onderbroken door de uitkragende ingangspartij en de arkeltoren. Alle vensters zijn gevat in stalen profielen. De hoofdingang bevindt zich in een risalerend geveldeel aan de Schiedamse Vest en bestaat uit een vierkant uitgesneden portiek, waarvan de 'binnenmuren' binnen de façade naar binnen zijn afgeschuind en evenals de buitengevels van de begane grond met travertijn zijn bekleed. Een houten draaideur verleent toegang tot de zeer rijk met marmer gelambrizeerde hal. De travertijn omlijsting van de ingangspartij loopt bijna door tot en met de tweede verdieping. Op de eerste verdieping bevinden zich in het travertijn muurvlak drie hoge zeer smalle rechthoekige vensters en op de tweede verdieping drie iets minder hoge en nog smallere rondboogvensters. Aan weerszijden van het travertijn gevelvlak, ter hoogte van de eerste verdieping, bevindt zich een gebeeldhouwde figuur. Geheel bovenin de gevel van de risalerende ingangspartij bevinden zich drie radvensters.
Het travertijn geveldeel wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een heel smalle luifel. Doordat de overstekende dakrand het risalerende geveldeel volgt, wordt ook hier een luifel gesuggereerd. Het geveldeel links van de risalerende ingangspartij is drie vensterassen breed. Rechts van de ingangspartij wordt de hoek van het gebouw afgeschuind doordat het zes vensterassige geveldeel hier over de eerste drie bouwlagen twee maal geknikt is, terwijl de vierde bouwlaag geheel is afgerond. Op de eerste en tweede verdieping zijn de vensters per paar geklusterd. Tussen de vensters van ieder paar op de eerste verdieping is tegen de onderzijde van de (smalle) liseen een gebeeldhouwde figuur geplaatst. Rechts van de 'hoek' is vanaf de eerste verdieping een ronde arkeltoren aangebracht die nog een bouwlaag boven het dak uitsteekt. In de met travertijn beklede aanzet van de toren ter hoogte van de eerste verdieping bevinden zich zes kleine rechthoekige vensters omlijst met een rondboog spaarveld. Op de tweede en derde verdieping één klein rechthoekig venster. Bovenin de toren is een torenkamer met geheel rondom de toren een veelzijdige vensterstrook met rechthoekige vensters. Iets onder de torenkamer is op de toren een uurwerk aangebracht. De toren heeft een plat dak met veelzijdige geprofileerde daklijst. Parallel aan de achterzijde van de toren is de ronde witte schoorsteen opgetrokken die nog iets boven de toren uitsteekt en in de top kleine rechthoekige ventilatiegaten heeft.
Het gevelvlak rechts van de arkeltoren is zeven vensterassen breed, met op de begane grond alleen in de linker travee drie vensterassen een rondboogvenster met smeedijzeren raamhek. Op de vierde bouwlaag in de vensterstrook 14 vensters.
Waardering:
Uit 1928 daterend bankgebouw in voor bouwtijd en functie kenmerkende traditionalistische trant met bijbehorende sulpturen van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur-en cultuurhistorische, typologische en stedenbouwkundige waarde.

Bank building of four storeys and a basement floor. The property is erected on a more or less rectangular ground plan, with the corner at Schiedamse Vest/Witte de Withstraat being bevelled on three sides. The facades are erected on a basement of natural stone with rustica motif. The first storey, the surround of the main entrance and the start of the corner tower are clad with travertine. The remaining facade parts are erected in dark red brick. The property has an overhanging flat roof with mastic covering. On the ground floor round-arched windows with steel cross glazing. On the first and second floors there are tall rectangular windows. The brick panels between the windows are continuously thickened as pilasters across first and second floors.
Directly below the projecting eaves line is found on the third floor a band of square two-part windows with a massive rounded white surround. This window band is interrupted by the projecting entrance section and the corner tower. All windows are set in steel profiles. The main entrance is located in a projecting facade section at Schiedamse Vest and consists of a square cut-out portico, whose 'inner walls' within the facade are cut away inward and, like the outer facades of the ground floor, are clad with travertine. Somewhat below the tower chamber is placed on the tower a clock. The tower has a flat roof with multisided moulded eaves. Parallel to the rear of the tower the round white chimney is erected which extends somewhat above the tower and has small rectangular ventilation openings in the top.
The facade section to the right of the corner tower is seven window bays wide, with on the ground floor only in the left bay three window bays a round-arched window with wrought iron window grille. On the fourth storey in the window band 14 windows.
