Inleiding
VILLA gebouwd in 1924 in traditionalistische stijl in opdracht van P. Bergstein. Het ontwerp wordt toegeschreven aan architekt C.J. Duykers. Bijbouw uit ca. 1950 is uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Villa met twee bouwlagen onder gebroken en gewelfde schilddaken met leien in schubdekking. Twee nokschoorstenen, dakkapellen en bakgoten op consoles. Gevels van baksteen metselwerk in halfsteens verband. Donker getinte geprofileerde bakstenen plint met rollaag. Bloktand hoeklisenen. Rechthoekige houten kruiskozijnen, zes- en achtruits bovenlichten. Strek en hardstenen dorpels. Links in voorgevel vijfzijdige erker met balkon, voorzien van een houten balustrade. Dubbele balkondeuren met aan weerszijden smal venster. Rechts in de gevel per laag twee vensters. Op het dak twee dakkapellen. Rechterzijgevel: linker deel blind met dakkapel, in midden uitspringend trappenhuis, rechts met één venster in eerste laag en dakkapel. Entree met authentieke houten deur in de linkerzijgevel van het vooruitspringende gedeelte van de rechterzijgevel. Trappenhuis in twee en halve laag in drie traveeën. Eerste laag met traliewerk voor de vensters, tweede laag met bovenlicht en bovenste laag met lage vensters. Geheel rechts uitbouw van één laag met houten deur en bovenlicht. Over gehele breedte van achtergevel een uitbouw in één bouwlaag met plat dak. Links twee vensters, rechts dubbele tuindeur met aan weerszijden vensters. In tweede bouwlaag achtergevel vier vensters. Linkerzijgevel met bloktandlisenen verdeeld in twee helften. In linkerhelft in eerste bouwlaag een venster. Op het dak twee dakkapellen. Lage bakstenen erfscheiding met kolommen en ezelsrug. Het INTERIEUR is redelijk in tact zowel qua indeling als uitmonstering. Enkele nieuwe doorgangen gemaakt, wel de authentieke houten paneeldeuren. Entree met kleine hal met marmer tegels in zwart en wit, glas-in-lood panelen in geel en paars, tussendeur met glaspanelen. Centrale hal met authentieke trap en lambrisering, geornamenteerde trapleuning. In woonkamer tussendeur en wand met glas-in-loodpanelen naar serre: gebrandschilderd glas met bloemen, vruchten en oud-Hollandse motieven; serre-vloer met tegels. Authentieke parketvloer.
Waardering
De villa fungeert in historisch-stedebouwkundig opzicht als een gezichtsbepalende en markante afsluiting van de westzijde van het Oranjeplein; het architectuurhistorisch belang ligt besloten in de gaafheid en in de representativiteit voor de periode van het Interbellum; inwendig beschikt de villa over belangwekkende historische accenten en onderdelen, alle uit de bouwtijd. Dark-tinted profiled brick plinth with string course. Block-and-dash corner pilasters. Rectangular wooden cross windows, six- and eight-pane fanlights. Brick and ashlar cills. Left in front facade a five-sided bay window with balcony, fitted with a wooden balustrade. Double French doors with narrow window on either side. Right in the facade two windows per storey. On the roof two roof dormers. Right side wall: left section blind with roof dormer, in middle projecting staircase, right with one window in first storey and roof dormer. Entrance with authentic wooden door in the left side wall of the projecting section of the right side wall. Staircase in two and a half storeys in three bays. First storey with grilles for the windows, second storey with fanlight and top storey with low windows. Far right an extension of one storey with wooden door and fanlight. Across entire width of rear facade an extension in one storey with flat roof. Left two windows, right double French doors with windows on either side. In second storey rear facade four windows. Left side wall with block-and-dash pilasters divided into two halves. In left half in first storey a window. On the roof two roof dormers. Low brick boundary wall with pillars and saddle-back coping. The INTERIOR is reasonably intact both in terms of layout and finishes. Some new openings made, but the authentic wooden panelled doors remain. Entrance with small hall with black and white marble tiles, stained-glass panels in yellow and purple, inner door with glass panels. Central hall with authentic staircase and wainscoting, ornamented stair railing. In living room inner door and wall with stained-glass panels to conservatory: painted glass with flowers, fruits and old Dutch motifs; conservatory floor with tiles. Authentic parquet floor.
