The register's description

Inleiding

In een traditionele stijl in 1925 naar een ontwerp van architect A. Bartels uit Heerlen gebouwde BEAMBTENWONING ten behoeve van een hoofdingenieur.

Het gehele complex waarvan deze beambtenwoning deel uitmaakt werd gebouwd in opdracht van de mijn Laura en Vereeniging en was bestemd voor mijnopzichters en een hoofdopzichter. De aanbouwen aan de achtergevel zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.

Het totale complex bestaat uit een straatwand met links op de hoek een winkelwoning, vervolgens zes aaneengesloten aangebouwde beambtenwoningen, en rechts op de hoek een beambtenwoning die in 1925 werd gerealiseerd.

Omschrijving

De halfvrijstaande beambtenwoning heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met twee zadeldaken met pannen. Een dakkapel met nokpion. Pand telt vier venstertraveeën. Rechterdeel voorgevel iets terugliggend en uitlopend in een topgevel. Zadeldak haaks op dakdeel overige straatwand en iets verzonken.

Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is Kunradersteen, hardsteen en baksteen. Rechthoekige houten vensters met hardstenen dorpelstenen en kunststenen lateien. Rechthoekige houten deur met bovenlicht.

Entree met kunststenen omlijsting. In topgevel voorgevel twee smalle houten vensters. In topgevel voorgevel een cementering. Schouderstuk aan linkerzijde topgevel bekroond met een bolornament. Linkerdeel achtergevel uitlopend in een topgevel voorzien van een cementering. In de topgevel twee smalle rechthoekige houten vensters.

In het rechterdeel achtergevel in de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig houten venster met kunststenen latei. Aan de achtergevel diverse aanbouwen van omstreeks 1980 die niet beschermenswaardig zijn.

Rechterzijgevel met in de eerste bouwlaag aan linkerzijde een terrasluifel bestaande uit twee bakstenen kolommen en bakstenen basement, met hierop in de tweede bouwlaag een balkon met bakstenen balustrade. Rechthoekige houten balkondeuren met bovenlichten.

In rechterdeel van de eerste bouwlaag een rechthoekig houten venster met bovenlichten en met een kunststenen latei. In de tweede bouwlaag aan de rechterzijde eveneens een rechthoekig houten venster met bovenlichten en kunststenen latei.

Interieur aangepast en niet beschermenswaardig.

Waardering

Deze beambtenwoning aan de Sint Jansstraat is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling en is van belang voor de geschiedenis van de huisvesting in de mijnstreek. De beambtenwoning bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzonder belang van het complex waar dit pand deel van uitmaakt voor de geschiedenis van de bovenregionale architectuur, als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect Anton Bartels, wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek.

Ensemblewaarde ontleent deze beambtenwoning aan de betekenis als essentieel onderdeel van een straatwand die cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch van belang is en ook stedenbouwkundig van waarde is vanwege de situering nabij de R.K. kerk. Introduction

A civil servants' house built in traditional style in 1925 to a design by architect A. Bartels from Heerlen for a chief engineer.

Right part of front facade slightly recessed and culminating in a stepped gable. Gabled roof at right angles to the roof section of the rest of the street frontage and slightly sunk.

The building material used is Kunraderstone, hardsone and brick. Rectangular wooden windows with hardsone sill stones and artificial stone lintels. Rectangular wooden door with fanlight.

Entrance with artificial stone edging. In stepped gable of front facade two narrow wooden windows. In stepped gable of front facade cementing. Shoulder-piece on left side of stepped gable topped with a ball ornament. Left part of rear facade culminating in a stepped gable provided with cementing. In the stepped gable two narrow rectangular wooden windows.

In the right part of rear facade on the second storey a rectangular wooden window with artificial stone lintel. On the rear facade various extensions dating from around 1980 which are not worthy of protection.

Right side facade with on the first storey on the left side a terrace canopy consisting of two brick columns and brick base, with on the second storey a balcony with brick balustrade. Rectangular wooden balcony doors with fanlights.

In the right part of the first storey a rectangular wooden window with fanlights and with an artificial stone lintel. On the second storey on the right side likewise a rectangular wooden window with fanlights and artificial stone lintel.

Interior adapted and not worthy of protection.

Valuation

This civil servants' house on the Sint Jansstraat is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic and typological development and is of importance for the history of housing in the mining region. The civil servants' house possesses architectural-historical value owing to the particular importance of the complex of which this building forms part for the history of supra-regional architecture, as an example of the oeuvre of architect Anton Bartels, by reason of the particular use of materials and ornamentation.

This civil servants' house derives ensemble value from its significance as an essential component of a street frontage which is of cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance and is also of urban planning value owing to its location near the Roman Catholic church. The civil servants' house is finally of general importance owing to the high degree of architectural integrity of the exterior and the architectural-historical and typological rarity.
