Inleiding
In een traditionele stijl in 1922 naar een ontwerp van architect A. Bartels uit Heerlen gebouwde BEAMBTENWONING.
Het gehele complex waarvan deze beambtenwoning deel uitmaakt werd gebouwd in opdracht van de mijn Laura en Vereeniging en was bestemd voor mijnopzichters en een hoofdopzichter. De aanbouw aan de achtergevel is uitgesloten van bescherming.
Het totale complex bestaat uit een straatwand met links op de hoek een winkelwoning, vervolgens zes aaneengesloten aangebouwde beambtenwoningen, waarvan dit woonhuis deel uitmaakt, en rechts op de hoek een beambtenwoning die in 1925 werd gerealiseerd.
Omschrijving
De beambtenwoning telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met pannen. De entreepartijen van de panden met de huisnummers 5 en 7 bevinden zich in een vooruitspringend geveldeel dat uitloopt in een topgevel en is voorzien van een zadeldak.
Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is Kunradersteen, hardsteen en baksteen. Vensters met hardstenen dorpelstenen en kunststenen lateien.
Entree in rechterdeel voorgevel met rechthoekige houten deur met segmentboogvormig bovenlicht en smalle afgeronde zijlichten. Entree met decoratieve omlijsting in Kunradersteen in de vorm van een Florentijnse boog. In de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig houten venster met bovenlicht. Topgevel met cementering en een ruitvormige baksteen versiering.
Terugliggend geveldeel met plint in Kunradersteen. In de eerste bouwlaag twee rechthoekige houten kozijnen met bovenlichten. In de tweede bouwlaag eveneens twee rechthoekige houten vensters met bovenlichten. De tweede bouwlaag wit gepleisterd.
In het rechterdeel van de achtergevel rechthoekige houten dubbele tuindeuren met in beide deuren drie glaspanelen. Rechthoekig houten bovenlicht met drieruits roedeverdeling. Hoge zijlichten met hardstenen dorpelstenen. Deur met hardstenen dorpelsteen. Het geheel is voor zien van een kunststenen latei. In het linkerdeel achtergevel in de eerste bouwlaag een klein rechthoekig houten venster. In de tweede bouwlaag drie rechthoekige houten T-vensters. Interieur aangepast en niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
Deze beambtenwoning aan de Sint Jansstraat is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling en is van belang voor de geschiedenis van de huisvesting in de mijnstreek. De beambtenwoning bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzonder belang van het complex waar dit pand deel van uitmaakt voor de geschiedenis van de bovenregionale architectuur, als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect Anton Bartels, wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek.

High sidelights with hardstone sills. Door with hardstone sill. The whole provided with an artificial stone lintel. In the left part rear facade in the first storey a small rectangular wooden window. In the second storey three rectangular wooden T-windows. Interior adapted and not worthy of protection.
