HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Het Laar. The well-preserved early 18th-century structure has a highly symmetrical layout formed by a rectangular moat and avenue system and a ring avenue, which on the west side enclose two square ornamental and fish ponds - now reed fields - (cross-section from the homestead: moat, avenue, ring avenue, avenue). This layout is situated on a long central axis originally consisting of a drive straight towards the house - part of which is still present - and a sight channel 'Grand Canal' behind the house. The internal site lying within the rectangular boundary can be divided into three equal parts: on the east side the homestead with the house surrounded by tree groups (a red beech on each side), the outbuildings hidden behind these tree groups and the forecourt with circular lawn (see also Cadastral Map 1883-1913); the centrally hedged middle part is divided by the central path into two mirrored sections, two compartments with a lawn bordered by box balls and an orchard separated by a wood bank, also side paths, of which the left is flanked by yew; the last part on the west side consists of the two aforementioned fish ponds. The outer site consists of an alternation of oak and beech avenues, woodland and pasture. In front of the house, on the far side of the road, lie pastures furnished with tree groups (lime trees) which create depth; over these pastures an attractive view of the house has been created, which is enclosed by tall-growing trees (coulisse effect). To the left of the house lies a small landscape layout (now deer park) with pond and a copse; on the Cadastral Minute of 1821 the layout is indicated; to the north of this an oak avenue. Along the front of the house runs a straight road Het Laar, originally part of the 18th-century avenue system, currently avenue planting is only present along the section towards the Stationsweg. Behind the house the grand canal dominates the layout. The grand canal can be distinguished into a narrow part (east) flanked by an avenue and a ditch and a wider part (west) without clear avenue planting.
