Omschrijving

HOOFDGEBOUW (Het Laar).

Waardering

HOOFDGEBOUW (Het Laar) van algemeen belang:

- vanwege de ouderdom;

- vanwege de classicistische vormgeving uit de 18de eeuw;

- vanwege de gaaf bewaard gebleven ruimte-indeling van het interieur;

- vanwege de markante ligging binnen de historische tuin- en parkaanleg;

Description

MAIN BUILDING (Het Laar). The originally 18th-century block-shaped house of five bays was remodelled in 1850 and extended with a corner wing, giving it an asymmetrical appearance. The building erected on a rectangular foundation consists of a rusticated basement and two storeys under two hipped roofs covered with glazed Dutch tiles with brick corner chimneys. The five-bay-wide plastered facade on the front and rear, bordered on both sides by pilasters, has a projecting centre bay under a pediment and to the side the slightly projecting corner wing of one bay with rusticated corner pilasters. The regular window arrangement of these facades consists of a barred basement window, a four-pane window with half-round fanlight in a rectangular frame on the principal storey and a six-pane window on the upper storey. All windows are fitted with shutters. In the front facade a double entrance door with glazing bars and a semicircular fanlight set in a simple surround with consoles supporting a cornice is set within a sandstone ten-step staircase. Beneath the staircase a basement entrance. The detailing of the whitewashed left side facade consists of one window bay with a basement window, a four-pane and a six-pane window, two basement windows and a blind window (to the right); the whitewashed right side facade has a basement door, basement window and basement light, on the principal storey two four-pane windows and on the upper storey a six-pane window. The INTERIOR is noteworthy in particular for the largely original layout on the principal storey with square hall flanked by rooms and a rear room; marble chimney-piece in rear room; wooden chimney-pieces in hall and right side room.

Valuation

MAIN BUILDING (Het Laar) of general importance:

- by reason of its age;

- by reason of its classical 18th-century design;

- by reason of the well-preserved room layout of the interior;

- by reason of its striking location within the historic garden and park layout;

- by reason of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
