Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Business premises of the Atelier Bogtman, built in the style of the Amsterdam School, realised in 1917 after a design by G.F. La Croix. The client was Haarlem glazier W. Bogtman of the eponymous, nationally renowned, glass studio that is still located in this premises.
Description
Business premises built on an almost rectangular ground plan with two residential flats above. The premises consists of three storeys under a flat roof. The masonry of the front and rear facades is laid in red brick, the northern side facade is plastered, the southern side facade is pottopshed (recently). The brick in the front facade is laid in fluted forms at the various offsets. The richly modelled front facade (west) has a width of five unequally spaced projecting window axes in relation to each other. The second and third window axes from the south are situated in a broad projection with wooden bay windows at the level of the upper storey in the midst of pottopshed boarding. Vertically placed wrought-iron decorative letters form the name BOGTMAN between the two bay windows. Letters identical in material and form spell out the words GEBRAND-GESCHILDERD-GLAS under the cornice. The cornice is of wood and follows the various offsets of the facade surfaces. The rear facade (east) and both side facades are flat, the latter moreover almost entirely blind. Only in the pottopshed southern side facade is there a small window. The rear facade has seven unequally spaced window axes. The third axis from the north consists of a large undivided glass pane (now in aluminium).
The windows are all of wood and consist of multi-part frames with multi-pane glazing bars. On the ground floor and upper storey of the front facade the lower panes of the windows have no glazing bars. The upper panes of the windows have in addition to the vertical glazing bars also a diagonal glazing bar division. On the ground floor there are three entrance arrangements distributed over the outer two window axes and the second axis from the left side facade (north). The outer doors provide access to the residential flats, the third door is double and provides access to the studio. The panelled doors with triangular leaded light pane are placed in multi-part frames of which the narrow panes are also provided with a glazing bar division. Below the wooden bay window arrangement is a coupled series of six windows with vertical glazing bars in the upper panes.
On the northern side facade there is a painted facade advertisement sloping down stepwise, on which in the midst of a geometric motif the words W. BOGTMAN appear and lower the words GLAS IN LOOD placed one above the other.
Valuation
Glazing studio with associated residential flats from 1917 belonging to Bogtman of general importance from an architectural-historical and cultural-historical point of view as a well-preserved style example of an Expressionistically detailed business premises of a glazing business that has enjoyed national reputation since the early 20th century.
