Inleiding
Voormalige BROOD- EN BANKETFABRIEK. Hoofdgebouw van de toenmalige verbruikscoörperatie "Vooruitgang", gebouwd in 1927 naar ontwerp van A.M. J. Sevenhuijsen in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. De fabriek staat op een rechthoekig terrein met de representatieve voorzijde aan de mr. Cornelisstraat.
Omschrijving
Het voormalige fabrieksgebouw bestaat uit een evenwijdig aan de mr. Cornelisstraat lopend rechthoekig volume van twee bouwlagen onder plat dak met een overstek. Het muurwerk is gemetseld in diepgevoegde gele baksteen. De onderzijde van het muurwerk is uitgevoerd in rode, deels gesintelde baksteen in verticaal verband. Dit rode metselwerk is onder de vensters hoger opgetrokken. Tussen de vensters bevindt zich op de kant gemetselde rode baksteen. Het rechthoekige volume aan de mr. Cornelisstraat heeft een plastisch- lineaire hoofdvorm. In het midden bevindt zich een paraboolvormige hoofdingang. De onderzijde van de dagkanten is uitgevoerd in gerustificeerde hardsteen. Boven de ingang zijn sporen zichtbaar van de paraboolvorm geplaatste woorden COOPERATIE VOORUITGANG. Naast de ingang (O) bevindt zich een uit bakaardewerk samengestelde sculptuur door Theo van Reijn uit 1927. Het is een voorstelling van drie figuren en profil boven het woord COOPERATIE. Rechts van deze ingang (O) bevindt zich het voormalige kantoorgedeelte. Links hiervan een bedrijfsgedeelte. Het kantoorgedeelte is asymmetrisch. Het heeft op de parterre een reeks grote horizontale vierkante vensters en op de verdieping een reeks kleinere horizontale vierkante vensters. De oostelijke hoek springt op de verdieping in. De overstekende gootlijst ligt iets hoger dan de overstekende gootlijst boven het bedrijfsgedeelte (W). Het voormalige bedrijfsgedeelte heeft een symmetrische opzet met op de parterre elk een reeks van vijf verticale vensters aan weerszijden van een strook verticaal metselwerk in rode baksteen die tot onder de voormalige laadopeningen op de verdieping is doorgetrokken. Hierboven hangt een hijsbalk onder een ter plekke naar voren springende gootlijst. Voor is een lage horizontale vensterreeks direct onder de gootlijst. Deze vensterreeks loopt door boven de zijgevel (W) en achtergevel (N) van het bedrijfsgedeelte. Op de vier hoeken van het bedrijfsgedeelte gaat deze reeks onder de gootlijst over in een groter venster.
Waardering
Het hoofdgebouw van de voormalige brood- en banketfabriek is van algemeen belang uit cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig oogpunt als element uit de geschiedenis van de coöperatieve voorzieningen, vanwege de overwegend gaaf bewaarde hoofdvorm en detaillering asmede vanwege de ligging in de oorspronkelijke stedebouwkundige situatie.

Description
The former factory building consists of a rectangular volume running parallel to mr. Cornelisstraat with two storeys under a flat roof with an overhang. The masonry is laid in deep-jointed yellow brick. The lower part of the masonry is executed in red, partly sintered brick in vertical bond. This red masonry is carried up higher below the windows. Between the windows red brick is laid on edge. The rectangular volume facing mr. Cornelisstraat has a plastic-linear main form. In the centre there is a parabolic-shaped main entrance. The underside of the day edges is executed in rusticated hardstone. Above the entrance traces are visible of words COOPERATIE VOORUITGANG placed in a parabolic form. Next to the entrance (E) there is a sculpture composed of terracotta by Theo van Reijn from 1927. It is a representation of three figures in profile above the word COOPERATIE. To the right of this entrance (E) is the former office section. To the left of it a business section. The office section is asymmetrical. It has on the ground floor a series of large horizontal square windows and on the upper storey a series of smaller horizontal square windows. The eastern corner recedes on the upper storey. The overhanging cornice lies slightly higher than the overhanging cornice above the business section (W). The former business section has a symmetrical arrangement with on the ground floor a series of five vertical windows on each side of a strip of vertical red brick masonry that extends down below the former loading openings on the upper storey. Above this hangs a lifting beam under a cornice that projects forward at that point. In front is a low horizontal window series directly under the cornice. This window series continues above the side facade (W) and rear facade (N) of the business section. On the four corners of the business section this series runs under the cornice into a larger window.
Valuation
The main building of the former bread and cake factory is of general importance from a cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning point of view as an element from the history of cooperative provisions, because of the predominantly well-preserved main form and detailing as well as because of its location in the original urban planning situation.
