Inleiding
Middelste blok van een groep van vijf blokken met voormalige DIENSTWONINGEN. Het middelste blok werd in 1883-1884 gebouwd in sobere eclectische trant naar ontwerp van I.J.H. Gijsberti Hodenpijl. Het bevat een dubbele woning die aanvankelijk geheel of ten dele werd gebruikt door de wasbazen van de Ripperdakazerne. De dubbele woning staat op geringe afstand van de twee westelijk blokken en wordt hiermee door een tuinmuur verbonden. Tussen de dubbele woning en de twee oostelijke blokken lag in oorsprong een groot terrein dat na 1920 werd gebouwd. Het terrein werd aanvankelijk gebruikt ten behoeve van wasplaatsen en bleekveld (1885), later ook ten behoeve van een open rijbaan. De na 1920 gerealiseerde bebouwing werd na 1950 gewijzigd.
NB het verbindende muurwerk en de bebouwing tussen de dubbele woning en de twee blokken oostelijke dienstwoningen valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwd blok van twee woningen (dubbele woning), bestaande uit parterre, verdieping en kapverdieping onder dwars zadeldak met zwarte kruispan. In de nok bevinden zich drie schoorstenen, waarvan de middelste dubbel is. Het blok heeft in de lengte vier vensterassen en in de breedte (kopgevels) twee vensterassen. Elke woning heeft een breedte van twee vensterassen. Het muurwerk is opgetrokken in rode baksteen. De gebosseerde en licht uitgemetselde hoeken zijn gemetseld in gele baksteen. Het muurwerk is verder gedecoreerd met cordonlijsten tussen parterre en kapverdieping en horizontale lijsten in de toppen van de kopgevels. Dit lijstwerk is steeds gepleisterd. Ook de decoratie van de ontlastingsbogen is gepleisterd. De overgang tussen muurwerk en kap wordt aan alle lange gevels gevormd door een houten kroonlijst. Aan de kopgevels rusten de licht overstekende dakschilden op doorgetrokken vlieringhouten. De dakschilden worden door gladde windveren beëindigd. De kozijnen hebben op de parterre een kruisvorm met draairamen. De verdieping heeft schuiframen. Nabij de kopgevels heeft het muurwerk van de verdieping een klein vierkant venster.
Waardering
De voormalige dubbele dienstwoning uit 1883-84 is samen met de vier andere blokken dienstwoningen aan de Saenredamstraat van algemeen belang uit cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt en wegens ensemblewaarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het voormalige kazernecomplex van de Ripperdakazerne.

Middle block of a group of five blocks with former SERVICE DWELLINGS. The middle block was built in 1883-1884 in sober eclectic style to the design of I.J.H. Gijsberti Hodenpijl. It contains a double dwelling which was initially wholly or partly used by the washerwomen of the Ripperdakazerne. The double dwelling stands at a short distance from the two westerly blocks and is connected to them by a garden wall. Description
Block of two dwellings (double dwelling) built on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of ground floor, first floor and attic storey under a transverse gabled roof with black bond tile. In the ridge are three chimneys, of which the middle one is double. The block has four window bays in length and two window bays in width (gable ends). Each dwelling has a width of two window bays. The masonry is built in red brick. The rusticated and slightly projecting corners are built in yellow brick. The masonry is further decorated with cordon mouldings between ground floor and attic storey and horizontal mouldings at the tops of the gable ends. This moulding is always plastered. The decoration of the relieving arches is also plastered. The transition between masonry and roof is formed on all long facades by a wooden cornice. At the gable ends the slightly projecting roof boards rest on extended attic timbers. The roof boards are finished with smooth barge boards. The frames on the ground floor have a cross form with casements. The first floor has sash frames. Near the gable ends the masonry of the first floor has a small square window.
Valuation
The former double service dwelling from 1883-84 is together with the four other blocks of service dwellings on the Saenredamstraat of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective and owing to ensemble value as a historical-functional component of the former barracks complex of the Ripperdakazerne.
