Inleiding
Rustieke GIETIJZEREN BRUG over de slingerende waterscheiding tussen het oudste deel van de begraafplaats en de uitbreiding uit 1887. De brug werd gefabriceerd naar een gewijzigd ontwerp van de toenmalige Haarlemse gemeente-architect J. Leijh uit 1889. De vaste brug overspant twee hoger gelegen oevers met aflopend talud naar het water.
Omschrijving
De brug heeft een licht gebogen uit H-profielen met tussenliggende plankieren samengesteld brugdek dat met beide uiteinden rust op de oevers en waarvan de overspanning wordt ondersteund door twee rijen van drie pijlers die direct aan de waterkant staan. De constructieve onderdelen van de brug imiteren het rustieke karakter van onregelmatig en knoestig rondhout bij de pijlers en van lege boomstammen bij de zijleuningen, docht zijn uitgevoerd in gietijzer. De diverse brugdelen zijn met bouten en moeren in elkaar gezet. Aan de bovenzijde van beide brugleuningen staat het opschrift Th=. M.BLOM.HAARLEM en op de zijkanten van het brugdek staat het opschrift Jb=.ZIMMER & Zn= AMSTERDAM
Waardering
Zeldzaam geworden en gaaf bewaarde gietijzeren brug in rustieke trant die vanwege het type en materiaalgebruik architectuurhistorische waarde heeft. De brug is ook van belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van de Algemene Begraafplaats Akendam.

Introduction
Rustic CAST-IRON BRIDGE over the meandering watercourse between the oldest part of the cemetery and the 1887 expansion. The bridge was fabricated according to a modified design by the then Haarlem municipal architect J. Leijh from 1889. The fixed bridge spans two higher-lying banks with sloping banks towards the water.
Description
The bridge has a slightly curved bridge deck assembled from H-profiles with intervening planks, which rests at both ends on the banks and whose span is supported by two rows of three piers standing directly at the water's edge. The structural components of the bridge imitate the rustic character of irregular and knotty round timber at the piers and of hollow tree trunks at the side railings, yet are executed in cast iron. The various bridge components are bolted together. On the top of both bridge railings is the inscription Th=. M.BLOM.HAARLEM and on the sides of the bridge deck is the inscription Jb=.ZIMMER & Zn= AMSTERDAM
Valuation
