Omschrijving
Het POORTGEBOUW van de Algemene Begraafplaats is gebouwd in 1829 door J.D. Zocher jr. in neoclassicistische stijl met neo-grec invloeden.
Het poortgebouw heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en één bouwlaag onder een plat dak met omlopende dakschilden, gedekt met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen en zinken hoekkepers. De rondboogvormig afgesloten onderdoorgang naar de begraafplaats bevindt zich in het midden. Het poortgebouw is gepleisterd en witgeschilderd en heeft een grijs geschilderde plint. Tegen de voor- en de achtergevel zijn vier, eveneens witgepleisterde, halfzuilen geplaatst van de Toscaanse orde. De gevels worden afgesloten door een houten hoofdgestel, dat bestaat uit een gekorniste architraaflijst, een gekornist fries met metopen en triglyfen met guttae en een geprofileerde kroonlijst met mutuli.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde VOORGEVEL wordt door vier halfzuilen in drie assen verdeeld. In de middelste as, die iets smaller is dan de twee andere, bevindt zich de rondboogvormig afgesloten poortopening. Bij de boogaanzet is als een soort rudimentair kapiteel een omlopende geprofileerde lijst aangebracht. In de twee andere assen bevinden zich grote rondboogvormig afgesloten nissen met stenen lekdorpels.
De ACHTERGEVEL is op dezelfde wijze vormgegeven als de voorgevel.
De nagenoeg symmetrisch ingedeelde LINKER ZIJGEVEL heeft twee vensters met 6-ruits schuiframen en stenen lekdorpels. Het linker kozijn is voorzien van duimen, waar vermoedelijk luiken aan hebben gehangen.
De RECHTER ZIJGEVEL is op dezelfde wijze vormgegeven als de linker zijgevel.
De ONDERDOORGANG heeft een vlakke, gepleisterde zoldering en in beide zijwanden twee deuropeningen met paneeldeuren (één deur is vervangen door een koelceldeur). De vloer van de onderdoorgang is geplaveid met klinkers in visgraatmotief. Aan de straatzijde wordt de onderdoorgang afgesloten door een dubbel smeedijzeren draaihek met pijlpunten.

The GATEHOUSE of the General Cemetery was built in 1829 by J.D. Zocher jr. in neoclassical style with neo-Greek influences.
The gatehouse has a rectangular ground plan and one storey under a flat roof with running roof gutter tiles, covered with smothered Dutch tiles and zinc corner gutters. The semi-circular passage to the cemetery is located in the middle. The gatehouse is plastered and whitewashed and has a grey-painted plinth. Against the front and rear facades are four half-columns, also plastered white, of the Tuscan order. The facades are finished with a wooden entablature, consisting of a corniced architrave list, a corniced frieze with metopes and triglyphs with guttae and a moulded cornice with mutuli.
The symmetrically arranged FRONT FACADE is divided into three bays by four half-columns. In the middle bay, which is slightly narrower than the other two, is the semi-circular passage opening. At the spring of the arch, a moulded circumferential list is applied as a sort of rudimentary capital. In the other two bays are large semi-circular recessed niches with stone drip moulds.
The REAR FACADE is designed in the same manner as the front facade.
The almost symmetrically arranged LEFT SIDE FACADE has two windows with 6-pane sash windows and stone drip moulds. The left frame is provided with thumbs, where shutters presumably hung.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE is designed in the same manner as the left side facade.
The PASSAGE has a flat, plastered ceiling and in both side walls two door openings with panelled doors (one door has been replaced by a refrigerator door). The floor of the passage is paved with clinkers in a herringbone pattern. At the street side the passage is closed off by a double wrought-iron swing gate with arrow points.
