Inleiding
WINKEL-WOONHUIS met gevel uit 1890, in 1926 voorzien van een etalage in Art Nouveaustijl ten behoeve van de slager F.A. Stevens.
Omschrijving
Het een bouwlaag tellende diepe huis, dat mogelijk in kern 16e of 17e eeuws kan zijn, wordt gedekt door een schilddak met zwarte en rode oudhollandse pannen. Het grenst links aan een doorgang met poort en rechts aan het buurpand. De voorgevel uit 1890 is een bakstenen, gepleisterde en gewitte, ingezwenkte lijstgevel. De begane grond heeft een grijze plint en wordt van de verdieping gescheiden door een cordonlijst, terwijl de verdieping geblokte hoekpilasters heeft. De ramen hebben hardstenen dorpels, een zesruits indeling en een geblokte hanekam boven een geschulpte sierrand, welke op de begane grond uit hout en op de etage uit zink is vervaardigd. De in 1926 aangebrachte etalage heeft een plint van bruin gevlamde, geglazuurde bakstenen met een afgeschuinde afdekking in caramelkleurige steen. De pilasters welke de etalage omlijsten bestaan uit groen-bruin geglazuurde stenen en worden bekroond door terracotta voluten die een lijst dragen uit bruine caramelkleurige en wit geglazuurde steen. De etalageruit heeft een hardstenen, welvende dorpel en houten ajourwerk, beide in Art-Nouveautrant en daarboven een zwarte glazen plaat met vergulde letters "Vleeschhouwerij". Deze plaat is gesigneerd Ant. N. Bouvy, Amsterdam FT".
Waardering
Het winkelwoonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als representant van de ontwikkeling van de middenstand in Noord-Brabant en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het winkelwoonhuis van de zestiende tot de twintigste eeuw. De winkelpui heeft architectuurhistorische waarde als laat voorbeeld van Art Nouveau. Het pand heeft belang voor de bouwgeschiedenis vanwege de gelaagdheid der afzonderlijke bouwfasen. Description
The one-storey deep house, which possibly in its core may be 16th or 17th century, is covered by a hipped roof with black and red old Dutch tiles. It borders on the left a passageway with gateway and on the right the neighbouring building. The front gable from 1890 is a brick, plastered and whitewashed, chamfered cornice-topped facade. The ground floor has a grey plinth and is separated from the upper storey by a string course, whilst the upper storey has rusticated corner pilasters. The windows have sandstone sills, a six-pane division and a rusticated cockerel cresting above a sculpted ornamental band, which on the ground floor is made of wood and on the upper storey of zinc. The shop window fitted in 1926 has a plinth of brown flamed, glazed brick with a bevelled coping in caramel-coloured stone. The pilasters which frame the shop window consist of green-brown glazed stone and are crowned by terracotta volutes which carry a list of brown caramel-coloured and white glazed stone. The shop window pane has a sandstone, curved sill and wooden fretwork, both in Art Nouveau style and above it a black glazed plate with gilded letters "Vleeschhouwerij". This plate is signed Ant. N. Bouvy, Amsterdam FT".
Valuation
The shop-dwelling is of general importance. It has cultural-historical values as a representative of the development of the middle class in North Brabant and as an example of the typological development of the shop-dwelling from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. The shop front has architectural-historical value as a late example of Art Nouveau. The building is important for building history because of the layering of the individual building phases. It has ensemble values as part of a well-preserved section of the inner city. It is well preserved and because of the complex building history extremely rare.
