SCHOOL, onderdeel van het complex Montessorischool aan de Albrecht Dürerstraat 36. De uitbreiding van het hoofdgebouw naar het noorden (Albrecht Dürerstraat 34) is in 1949 tot stand gekomen naar een ontwerp van W.J. Nieuwenhuysen en B.H. van der Waals en is van bescherming uitgesloten.
Omschrijving
Montessori SCHOOL opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond als hoekpand bestaande uit drie bouwlagen onder een plat (oorspronkelijk schuif-) dak met niveauverschillen tussen het gedeelte aan de Albrecht Dürerstraat en het gedeelte aan de Anthonie van Dijckstraat. Het gebouw bestaat uit een betonskelet. Gevel aan de Albrecht Dürerstraat wordt beheerst door de gevelhoge, in vakken ingedeelde glazen pui voor het trappenhuis, waarin op straatniveau de ingang met de stalen deuren is geprojecteerd. De ingang bevindt zich onder een luifel. Rechts van de ingang is het betonskelet opgevuld met baksteen met op alle verdiepingen eenzelfde vensterverdeling en houten kozijnen. Aan de zijde van de Anthonie van Dijckstraat bevindt zich het souterrain met vensters over de gehele breedte. Op de twee bovenverdiepingen twee meter brede balkons met draadglazen borstweringen. Elk balkon rust op vier ver uitkragende balken en twee slanke zuiltjes. Boven de verdiepingen bevindt zich de teruggelegen verdieping met het op het zuiden georiënteerde dakterras waarvan de oorspronkelijk open wanden boven de draadglazen borstwering aan de Albrecht Dürerstraat thans zijn afgesloten. Boven de horizontale afsluiting van het dakterras aan de Anthonie van Dijckstraat in stalen letters: MONTESSORISCHOOL. Aan de speelplaatszijde is het betonskelet opgevuld met metselwerk. Onregelmatige vensterverdeling. Vanuit de tuin loopt een ijzeren trap naar het balkon van de verdieping met een tweede (wentel-) trap naar het dakterras. De kozijnen zijn van ijzer, maar zijn met hout afgewerkt bij de aansluitingen met het metselwerk. In het interieur bevinden zich verschuifbare wanden van glas tussen de klaslokalen. De toiletruimten hebben lage deurtjes.

School naar ontwerp van Van Tijen met thans als speelplaats ingerichte tuin van algemeen nationaal belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het Montessorischool-complex aan de Albrecht Dürerstraat, vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde en belangrijke zeldzaamheidswaarde als gaaf en een van de weinige overgebleven (Amsterdamse) voorbeelden van de architectuur van het Nieuwe Bouwen. Description
Montessori SCHOOL erected on a rectangular floor plan as a corner building consisting of three storeys under a flat (originally sliding) roof with level differences between the section at Albrecht Dürerstraat and the section at Anthonie van Dijckstraat. The building consists of a concrete skeleton. The facade at Albrecht Dürerstraat is dominated by the full-height glazed curtain wall for the stairwell, divided into bays, in which the entrance with steel doors is located at street level. The entrance is located under a canopy. To the right of the entrance the concrete skeleton is filled with brick with the same window division on all floors and wooden frames. On the side of Anthonie van Dijckstraat is the basement with windows across its entire width. On the two upper floors two-metre wide balconies with wire glass railings. Each balcony rests on four far-projecting beams and two slender columns. Above the floors is the recessed floor with the south-facing roof terrace whose originally open walls above the wire glass railing at Albrecht Dürerstraat are now closed. Above the horizontal closure of the roof terrace at Anthonie van Dijckstraat in steel letters: MONTESSORISCHOOL. On the playground side the concrete skeleton is filled with masonry.
