Inleiding
De RECREATIEWONING "Sperwer" te Vlieland staat in de voorste, meest zuidelijke rij huizen in het 'Duinkersoord', een duingebied dat vanaf eind jaren twintig bebouwd is met recreatiewoningen en zich uitstrekt vanaf de bosrand ten noorden van het dorp Oost-Vlieland tot aan de laatste duinenrij. De "Sperwer" staat iets terug en verhoogd, aan de noordzijde van de oost-west lopende weg tussen bosrand en duingebied. De woning is gebouwd in 1938/39 met toepassing van elementen uit de Interbellum-architectuur, typerend voor de woningbouw uit die periode. De architect en/of aannemer is tot dusver onbekend; oorspronkelijk stond een identieke woning links naast de "Sperwer": deze is afgebrand. De rechthoekige kavel loopt naar achteren toe omhoog, waardoor het huis enigszins met het duin in de rug staat. De recreatiewoning is bijzonder gaaf; alleen de houten borst-wering van de veranda is waarschijnlijk vernieuwd; ook heeft het interieur kleine wijzigingen en moderniseringen ondergaan.
Omschrijving
De recreatiewoning "Sperwer" is in één bouwlaag met zolderverdieping gebouwd uit horizontale, met carbolineum bewerkte planken, op een rechthoekige plattegrond, onder een schilddak met aan de voorzijde een wolfeind. Het dak is gedekt met riet en bevat in het linker- en het rechter dakschild een dakkapel met dubbele tweeruitsvensters, onder afzaat; oranje rietvorsten op de nok; ruim overstek met houten betimmering. Onder in de rechter zijgevel is de toegang naar de kelder, te bereiken via een aflopend paadje met keermuur aan weerszijden. Aan de voorzijde is een veranda, iets breder dan het huis, met gesloten borstwering van horizontale planken; daarop vierkante houten stijlen die het dakoverstek dragen. De kleurstelling is nog oorspronkelijk: op de gevelhoeken een smalle lijst die donkerrood geverfd is, evenals de stijlen van de veranda; de borstwering daarvan is groen; de kozijnen en een lijst binnen de topgevel zijn wit. De voorgevel en de zijgevels bevatten dubbele drieruits-vensters.
De voorgevel is met twee vensters en openslaande drieruits-deuren geheel transparant op de eerste bouwlaag. Dit effect wordt nog versterkt door een venster direct vooraan in de beide zijgevels. In de topgevel is onder het venster een houten bloembak bevestigd; daaronder een wit houten bord met de naam "Sperwer" erop geschilderd. De achtergevel bevat een drieruitsdeur als tweede ingang.
Het INTERIEUR bezit nog een vrijwel oorspronkelijke PLATTEGROND, maar bevat verder geen monumentale onderdelen.
Waardering
De recreatiewoning "Sperwer" uit 1938/39 te Vlieland is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van het zich ontwikkelende toerisme op Vlieland in de jaren twintig en dertig van deze eeuw,
- vanwege de hoge mate van gaafheid van het exterieur,

The RECREATION HOUSE "Sperwer" at Vlieland stands in the foremost, most southerly row of houses in the 'Duinkersoord', a dune area that has been built up with recreation houses since the end of the nineteen-twenties and extends from the forest edge north of the village of Oost-Vlieland to the last dune ridge. The "Sperwer" stands somewhat set back and elevated, on the north side of the east-west running road between forest edge and dune area. The house was built in 1938/39 using elements from Interbellum architecture, typical for residential construction from that period. The architect and/or contractor has so far been unknown; originally an identical house stood immediately to the left of the "Sperwer": this burned down. The rectangular plot slopes upward at the rear, so the house stands somewhat with the dune at its back. The recreation house is in remarkably good condition; only the wooden breast-walling of the veranda has probably been renewed; the interior has also undergone minor alterations and modernisations.
Description
The recreation house "Sperwer" is built in one storey with an attic storey from horizontal planks treated with carbolineum, on a rectangular floor plan, under a hipped roof with a half-hipped end at the front. The roof is covered with thatch and contains in the left and right roof slope a roof dormer with double two-light windows, under an eave slope; orange thatch finials on the ridge; generous overhang with wooden cladding. Low in the right side gable is the access to the cellar, reached via a sloping path with retaining wall on both sides. At the front is a veranda, somewhat wider than the house, with closed breast-walling of horizontal planks; on this square wooden posts that carry the roof overhang. The colour scheme is still original: on the gable corners a narrow moulding painted dark red, as are the veranda posts; the breast-walling is green; the frames and a moulding within the top gable are white. The front facade and the side gables contain double three-light windows.
The front facade is completely transparent on the first storey with two windows and opening three-light doors. This effect is further enhanced by a window directly at the front in both side gables. In the top gable is a wooden flower box affixed below the window; beneath this a white wooden board with the name "Sperwer" painted on it. The rear gable contains a three-light door as a second entrance.
The INTERIOR retains a virtually original FLOOR PLAN, but otherwise contains no heritage elements.
Valuation
The recreation house "Sperwer" from 1938/39 at Vlieland is of general cultural historical and architectural historical importance:
- as a remarkable expression of the developing tourism on Vlieland in the nineteen-twenties and thirties of this century,
- owing to the high degree of integrity of the exterior,
- owing to the building style, in which elements of Interbellum architecture are applied;
- owing to the appearance-defining location, set somewhat elevated from the road and on the edge of the dune area.
