Inleiding
De PASTORIE van de St. Franciscuskerk gelegen aan de Grote Dijlakker is in 1933 aan de zuid-westzijde tegen de kerk aangebouwd. De hoofdingang is gesitueerd aan het pleintje voor de kerk.
Het ontwerp is van de uit Nijmegen afkomstige Architect H.C. van de Leur. Aanvankelijk was het de bedoeling dat de oude pastorie van de gesloopte St. Franciscuskerk gehandhaafd zou blijven. Tijdens de bouw van de kerk is echter besloten eveneens een nieuwe pastorie aan de kerk vast te bouwen. Het ontwerp voorziet in een sobere strenge architectuur met expressionistische invloeden. De vergaderruimte aan de achterzijde van de pastorie is gebouwd in 1992 en valt niet onder de bescherming.
Omschrijving
De pastorie is opgetrokken in donkerrode baksteen met een samengesteld met grijze pannen belegd dak en is in voorkomen en detaillering verwant aan de kerk. Als gevolg van een vooruitspringend bouwvolume met topgevel is de plattegrond min of meer L-vormig. De toegang tot de woning ligt rechts naast de topgevel die grenst aan het pleintje voor de kerk. De ingang, gelegen in een portiek, heeft twee zijlichten. Grenzend aan de kerk ligt de dienstingang. Boven iedere ingangsdeur zit op de verdieping een T-venster met een drieruits bovenlicht. Tussen de twee ingangsdeuren zitten op de begane grond twee kleine vierkante vensters met daarboven, ter plaatse van het trapportaal, twee hoge vensters met gekleurd glas. Naast de hoofdingang bevindt zich een gemetseld muurtje.
De topgevel heeft op de begane grond drie schuifvensters met een drieruits bovenlicht en een strek; op de verdieping twee T-vensters met een bovenlicht en een keperboog; onder de kap bevinden zich drie smalle rechthoekige vensters waarvan de middelste hoger is dan de andere twee.
De topgevel grenzend aan de Grote Dijlakker is het zelfde als de topgevel die grenst aan het pleintje met uitzondering van de drie vensters onder de kap die in 1946 plaats hebben gemaakt voor een venster als op de verdieping. De begane grond heeft twee T-vensters. Het terugliggende geveldeel links naast deze topgevel heeft op de begane grond en verdieping drie vensters met een drieruits bovenlicht. De zijgevel aan de zuid-west kant heeft vier kleine hoge vensters op de verdieping, twee hoge vensters ter plaatse van de trap naar de zolder en een zoldervenster. Het terugliggende deel met dienstvertrekken heeft op de begane grond één dubbel en één enkel T-venster met bovenlicht. Op de verdieping zit eenzelfde enkel venster.
De achtergevel is door de bouw van de vergaderzaal in 1992 en door een gevelwijziging op de begane grond niet meer origineel. De vier vensters op de verdieping en de twee ter hoogte van de zolder zijn oorspronkelijk Het INTERIEUR is vrijwel niet aangetast. Alle originele deuren en plafonds zijn nog aanwezig. Een opvallend element is de granieten trap met originele stalen balustrade en leuning. Het vormgebruik in de woning is ten aanzien van doorgangen gelijk aan die in de kerk. Er heeft, met de bouw van de vergaderruimte, slechts een kleine wijziging in de structuur van de dienstvertrekken plaatsgevonden. De zolderindeling stamt uit 1947.
Waardering
De pastorie van de St. Franciscuskerk te Bolsward is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp;

The RECTORY of the St. Franciscus Church located on the Grote Dijlakker was built in 1933 on the south-west side adjoining the church. The main entrance is situated on the square in front of the church.
The design is by the architect H.C. van de Leur from Nijmegen. Initially it was intended that the old rectory of the demolished St. Franciscus Church would be retained. During the construction of the church, however, it was decided to also build a new rectory attached to the church. The design provides for a sober austere architecture with expressionistic influences. The meeting room at the rear of the rectory was built in 1992 and is not covered by the protection.
Description
The rectory is built in dark red brick with a composite roof laid with grey tiles and in appearance and detailing is related to the church. As a result of a protruding building volume with a stepped gable, the floor plan is more or less L-shaped. The entrance to the dwelling is situated to the right of the stepped gable which borders on the square in front of the church. The entrance, located in a porch, has two side lights. Adjoining the church is the service entrance. Above each entrance door is a T-window on the upper storey with a three-light fanlight. Between the two entrance doors are two small square windows on the ground floor, and above these, at the location of the stair landing, two tall windows with coloured glass. Next to the main entrance is a small brick wall.
The stepped gable has three sash windows with a three-light fanlight and a stretcher on the ground floor; on the upper storey two T-windows with a fanlight and a Flemish bond; under the roof there are three narrow rectangular windows, the middle one being taller than the other two.
The stepped gable adjoining the Grote Dijlakker is the same as the stepped gable adjoining the square with the exception of the three windows under the roof which in 1946 were replaced with a window as on the upper storey. The ground floor has two T-windows. The recessed facade section to the left of this stepped gable has three windows with a three-light fanlight on both the ground floor and upper storey. The side facade on the south-west side has four small tall windows on the upper storey, two tall windows at the location of the stairs to the attic and one attic window. The recessed part with service rooms has one double and one single T-window with fanlight on the ground floor. On the upper storey there is a similar single window.
The rear facade is no longer original due to the construction of the meeting room in 1992 and due to a facade alteration on the ground floor. The four windows on the upper storey and the two at the height of the attic are original. The INTERIOR is virtually unaltered. All original doors and ceilings are still present. A striking element is the granite staircase with original steel balustrade and handrail. The formal usage in the dwelling with regard to openings is the same as that in the church. With the construction of the meeting room, there has been only a small alteration in the structure of the service rooms. The attic layout dates from 1947.

The rectory of the St. Franciscus Church in Bolsward is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
