Inleiding
Vrijstaand GRAFMONUMENT centraal gesitueerd op de Algemene Begraafplaats. Het grafmonument werd opgericht in 1918 ter herinnering aan 15 overleden Belgische geïnterneerden tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Omschrijving
GRAFMONUMENT bestaande uit een gedenkplaat opgebouwd uit blokken hardsteen met hierin de namen gegraveerd van de overleden belgische geïnterneerden. Deze kolom wordt bekroond door een klein hardstenen kruis. Aan de voorzijde van deze gedenkplaat een hoge vergulde grafurn op een klein basement en een breder hardstenen basement. Aan weerszijden een bloemenperk met rechthoekige hardstenen omlijsting. Aan de voorzijde van het grafmonument een dubbel luik naar een grafkelder. Het geheel wordt aan de voorzijde omsloten door elf kleine natuurstenen kegels met hiertussen een smeedijzeren ketting.

Het grafmonument bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere herinnering aan de eerste wereldoorlog. Het grafmonument bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het object aan de situering centraal op de Algemene Begraafplaats van Heerlen. MEMORIAL MONUMENT consisting of a commemorative plaque constructed from blocks of hard stone with the names engraved therein of the deceased Belgian internees. This column is crowned by a small hard stone cross. On the front of this commemorative plaque a tall gilt grave urn on a small basement and a wider hard stone basement. On either side a flower bed with rectangular hard stone surround. On the front of the memorial monument a double hatch to a grave vault. The whole is enclosed on the front by eleven small natural stone cones with between them a wrought iron chain.
