Inleiding
Blok van vier rug-aan-rug MIJNWERKERSWONINGEN. Zij vormen het beste voorbeeld van het oudste type mijnwerkerswoningen dat door de Staatsmijnen is gebouwd. De woningen werden omstreeks 1908-1910 gebouwd in een traditionele bouwstijl. Het ontwerp voor de woningen was van het Bouwbureau der Staatsmijnen.
De diverse naoorlogse aan- en bijbouwen zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand blok van vier rug-aan-rug mijnwerkerswoningen.
De woningen tellen een bouwlaag plus dakverdieping en worden afgedekt met zadeldaken met rode betonpannen. Dakranden met trespa betimmering. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen voorzien van een geel geverfde pleisterlaag. Plint is zwart geverfd. Rechthoekige vensters met kunststof kozijnen. De vensters van de panden Nieuwenhofstraat 18 en 20 zijn voorzien van rolluiken van omstreeks 1990.
Rechthoekige deuren van eveneens omstreeks 1990. Vensters en deuren met segmentboogvormige omlijsting.
Symmetrische indeling frontgevel. Middendeel frontgevel met in eerste bouwlaag twee vensters met bovenlichten en in de dakverdieping twee kleine vensters.
Aan weerszijden middendeel frontgevel terugspringende geveldelen onder doorlopend zadeldak. In het eerste terugspringende geveldeel een rechthoekige deur van omstreeks 1990. Vervolgens een verder terugspringend geveldeel met hierin een rechthoekig venster. In de zijgeveldakvlakken een lage dakkapel.
Middendeel linker- en rechterzijgevel terugspringend en hoger doorlopend en afgedekt met lessenaarsdak.
Diverse aan- en bijbouwen.
Indeling INTERIEUR niet meer in tact.
Waardering
De voormalige mijnwerkerswoningen zijn van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal economische en typologische ontwikkeling.
De panden bezitten architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzonder belang voor de geschiedenis van de volkshuisvesting.
Ensemblewaarde ontlenen de panden aan de situering binnen een complex van in totaal twintig woningen op een licht glooiend terrein en van belang voor het aanzien van dit deel van Hoensbroek terwijl de aanwezigheid van tuinen (als herinnering aan de specifieke voorzieningen voor mijnwerkers) van historische betekenis wordt geacht. De panden zijn van algemeen belang wegens de redelijke mate van architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de hoge mate van architectuurhistorische en typologische zeldzaamheid, tevens zijn de panden van een bijzondere ouderdom.

The dwellings have one storey plus attic storey and are covered with gabled roofs with red concrete tiles. Roof edges with trespa cladding. The building material applied is brick provided with a yellow painted plaster layer. Plinth is painted black. Rectangular windows with plastic frames. The windows of the buildings Nieuwenhofstraat 18 and 20 are provided with roller shutters from approximately 1990.

Valuation
The former miners' dwellings are of cultural-historical value as a special expression of a socio-economic and typological development.
The buildings possess architectural-historical value because of the special importance for the history of working-class housing.
The buildings derive ensemble value from their situation within a complex of a total of twenty dwellings on gently sloping terrain and of importance for the appearance of this part of Hoensbroek while the presence of gardens (as a reminder of the specific provisions for miners) is considered of historical significance. The buildings are of general importance because of the reasonable degree of architectural integrity of the exterior and the high degree of architectural-historical and typological rarity, furthermore the buildings are of a special age.
